Hmm just found out I can't get AO21's in 14" anymore, buggah.

Anyone running 14" wheels got any recommendations for 14" NON semi slicks please? Looking at Uniroyal rain experts in 185/60/14 at the moment.....

cheers

Did not realise they have been stopped???? Bugger.

I have only ever used 14" Caterham-spec Avon ZV3's ( free with a set of alloys, like bolting 4 spacehoppers on until I inflated them to around 23psi by which time the ride was absolutely ruined )and 14" Toyo CF1 ( free again with another set of Caterham alloys, drove those to Monte Carlo and back out of necessity and much better than the Avons but still woeful compared to 21s. ) Tyre compounds not designed for lightweight cars and even after doing a full day of donuts and drifts for a kids charity day trying to destroy them the fkers still had over half their tread left!!!!!!

To be honest i'd rather put up with a set of 14" R888's and be careful in the wet than use "proper" road tyres, but I will follow this thread with interest to see any other alternatives.

Camskill still have A021's listed in 14"

Uniroyal Rainexpert is a great tyre but probably not on a light car.

Avon CR28 Sport in 14" is a pretty good wet/road tyre or the CR6ZZ for the old school racer look. A048, Kumho V70 are also available in 14"

You might think so looking on the Yokohama website, but the 185/60/14 ARE there ---- listed under 13" wheels!
Demon Tweeks and George Polley have them in stock.

Yokohama a021 tyres are great in the wet, I drove to Scotland in torrential rain with standing water on the A1 and they were fine smile

I'm using 14" CF1's for day to day you need to realy drive like a hooligan to get them up to temp, in the wet or cold its not fun that said there not bad for spirited driving.
I have 13" R888's waiting for serious stuff

That's the trouble with normal road tyres, I had Avon ZV3s, and on a hot day they were OK.
In the wet and/or cold there was very little braking grip available for an emergency frown

Fine in the damp, but then 48's and the extreme tyres are not too bad either unless standing water and wet beyond "damp"

They are the best 14" by far I have ever tried in the wet, miles better than the CF1's . They wear out quite quick, I am lucky to get 3,000 miles but I don't pootle and they are expensive, but quality costs!

They seem to get better in the dry as they wear down as they are made in the same rubber compound as the AO48R's and the deep treadblocks wear down and lose the "squirm" you can get in the dry on new ones. When they are nearly bald they are great on circuit or as an airfield tyre, super sticky when they get warm.

Good to hear that the 21R's are still available - I might want to try those in the future.

I have C.Drive 2's on my Minari - haven't used it much so can't comment on how good they are, but I'd also note that you can get Toyo T1R's in 195/55/14 if they will fit on your car. (Might struggle on the Minari!)

Vredestein Sportrac 5's might be worth a look for "normal" tyres, but I guess that there would always be a concern about the tyres working on a light car.

I have the A048r on my Westie and they are a great tyre. Seriously impressed.

With a light car it's not always a case of how much tread pattern you have.

A couple of years ago I followed Lee down the Col du Bonette in torential rain. He was on (I think) Toyo T1R's that year and he was slithering all over the road. "That was the worst 15min driving of my life!" I was on R888's and was fine (I wouldn't have liked to push very hard though).

The 021's work because they have the tread AND the compound for the job.
