Monitor for photo editing..

Hi all,

Hope its the right place to post this. I have a 27 inch Imac, the screen is starting to fail though (moving vertical lines appearing)

Im on the look out for a new monitor for photo editing, I did look at the cinema display but wanted to see if there is anything better out there with better resolution for editing.

It would have to plug into a mini display port too.

Anyone on here recommend a monitor?

The main alternative is the 27" Dell. It has the same panel as the Cinema Display, but with a matte finish and non-LED backlighting. It has a displayport interface. You need a mini-DP to DP cable. I have mine connected to my 27" iMac as a second display.

PS, it might not be the screen that is failing. That symptom sounds like the graphics card.

The dell screen is better - not using led backlighting gives it a much wider colour gamut it also has more input and card reader etc

Thanks Rob, it does sound good, I shall look into it. Certainly would be good to have 2 screens running.

I run two 24" screens (HP ZR24w). One landscape, one portrait. Full screen editing is amazing; small details can be worked on and still have the whole image shown on the respective screen.

There is a 31 inch 3840x2160 Asus here too

The dell comes in a 30" size which imo is easier on the eyes for general usage due to a slightly bigger pixel size. Though if you are already used to the 27" apple you won't have a problem.

I have a 27" dell and wish I had splurged the extra for the 30. If looking at a wide gamut monitor (I would for photo editing) then seriously consider a monitor profiling doobrie as wel to get the most benefit.

I use a Spider 3 and, try as I might, I cannot get the iMac and the Dell to look the same, but they are a lot closer than without.

I have an old IPS panel monitor, seeing some cheaper e-IPS panels around now too. Is it worth spending the extra for a wide gamut model?
