My clutch has lost pressure, to the point where I can't select a gear and I need to refill it and bleed it to get enough pressure to select a gear and get to a garage. Being a complete novice and foolishly not having a copy of the bible, I don't know what I'm doing.
Please can anyone give me some guidance as to how I can get this sorted.
The car is booked in to be sorted in the morning, but as I can't even get a gear now, I'm here scratching my head a little. Thanks.

This earlier thread has lots of good advice I had the same problem, the master is under the black cover under the bonnet open it up and the reservoir is likely to be empty, I bled and refilled mine and it all came back must of only took about 30 mins including jacking up the car to get to the slave cylinder.

Mine came back with just a top up and no bleeding, seemed fine, I have bled it since though.

Ok. So the reservoir is empty - it's contents on the garage floor, so I've re filled it and now need to bleed the system...
A guide of how to bleed it would be a god send if anyone can advise

yes used this when I did my brake upgrade, excellent kit as long as you remember to lower the tyre pressure down before you start.

If you are on your own and cant bleed it properly, fill the master cylinder, open the slave cylinder 11mm spanner and just let the fluid gravity bleed out, top up the master but leave the lid off for a few hours, so air can bleed back up, hopefully you will have a decent peddle to get it to a garage

You need to jack the car up and get it safe on axle stands.
From underneath, on the drivers side of the gearbox, you will find the clutch slave cylinder.

With fluid on the garage floor, it sounds as though its this slave cylinder that has failed.

There is a bleed nipple on the back of it.

First top up the clutch master cylinder. Then have someone sat in the car to pump up the clutch pedal a few times and hold with slight pressure on it whilst you undo the bleed nipple. The clutch pedal should drop to the floor when you undo the bleed nipple, and should remain there whilst you tighten it back up.

Do this a few times, but keep checking and top up the master cylinder and you should have a clutch again.

If as suspected its the slave cylinder that is leaking, then dependent on how bad the leak, will depend on how long you will have a clutch pedal for, if you get my meaning.

Its a straight forward job to change out the master and slave cylinder and replace with new, then bleed as above and jobs done.

Good luck, Tom.

Thanks guys. Neighbour gave me a hand so there should be enough to get it to a garage tomorrow morning. Great advice.

There seems to be a large number of clutch master/slave cylinder failures recently, judging by the number of threads on these pages.
Make sure to seal the cover again or wet feet will follow the next downpour. smile
