I see the Lib Dems want to ban petrol by 2040.

Now I would see the point of a HiFi in that - putting out 113dB(A) of V8 sounds!!!

Nice try, but it's dreamland.

There ain't anything to replace petrol & diesel for its energy density and portability, despite what the enthusiasts say.

Adam, have you been reading The Sun? mmmmmm. I think maybe we should all go back to using horse and chart, because the way things are going I think we will all be by 2040! Keen wedge enthusiasts will have to tie a couple of horses to the front of the wedge and the jobs done. Don't forget to take the engine out though. Less work for the horses.

Plutonium? Only 6.5kg needed to release oodles of energy. ;^)

(Laughs)

Hmmm.. there's one or two little problems handling that, and anyway it 'only' releases heat (and radioactive stuff of course) so you need several subsystems to handle it.

It sounds amazing, but I remember reading a science article which pointed out that by the time you got all the bits necessary to handle an atomic power plant suitable for a car safely, it would be so heavy and lossy that it STILL would be less energy efficient that a tankful of petrol !!
(Yeah - it's all relative, so you could argue the point back)

What would really work is something like a gas turbine driving an electric generator (a mini jet engine in effect), but even then there's issues to deal with ....

2040? I'll be 76 if I'm still around, I probably won't give a toss by then...

Oh I don't know , I'd still like to be able to drive my wedge when I'm 76.... assuming I can still get in and out of it !! And if I can still buy gas for it....

I didn't think us wedgers need pacemakers anyways - the throb of the engine is enough to keep us going!

Where are you going to stable the 200 Horses?........ If you want a "similar" power to weight ratio....top end might be a bit limited though? scratchchin
