Tatras out and about in Kent.

Last weekend we went to Kent to see friends and while sat outside the Leather Bottle pub in Cobham (apparently one of C Dickens' haunts) on Sunday lunchtime I heard and then saw a few interesting sounding cars pulling into the car park. I was pleased and interested to see a few cars I didn't immediately recognise.

When a silver apparition, like something from a black and white sci-fi film, came in I grabbed my pint and did some car geeking...



The sound of an air cooled V8 is quite impressive.



There is a dated autograph on the glove compartment door. Maybe the restorer?

More pic's if interested - yes please. I absolutely love Tatras, missed the boat not buying one when they were affordable and all of a sudden they became trendy, damn.
The two I nearly bought were a tatty 603 but was put off by the amount of work needed, and a last of the line ex Hungarian Secret Police car complete with armoured glass!

This green one appears in another person's post parked next to his recently finished car at another show, I believe.





This one had a sign on the back shelf which said "AK47 goes here" !





They were from Margate according to the Rally plates they had on.

Incidentally a lot of the Tatra club folk aren't into "show queens" and do some serious long distance rallies.
One of the most surreal car images I've seen was a good few years back when I was visiting a mate in a fairly run down part of South Wales. We were at a "motorcycle salvage co." on a half built/half derelict industrial estate and plonked in the middle of the car park was an early Tatra, tatty, but complete with massive rear fin - to say it was slightly incongruous...

I love these. I was surprised how much values had gone up in recent years.

Dragged Mrs Dome round the Transport Museum in Prague last year, I'll see if I can find any of my pics when I get home. Some lovely old Tatras in there.

Nice spot of great cars. I used to have a green 613 just like the one in the photo above, bought it as a daily on one of my madder days....

The only UK Tatra specialist is in Barry I believe.

Interesting, that Tatra never had any ties with AK-47, Czhechoslovakia had completely own assault gun and USSR didnt imported Tatras, apart from very tiny quantity of 613-s

Heres some of my rather rubbish quality Prague based Tatra spots. There was a lovely 603 smoking about the city centre too but I never managed to get a pic sadly






The museum itself is well worth a visit if you're in Prague, they have some very interesting stuff, like this...
