I came back to my car the other day to find what can only be described as an albatross poo about 10" in diameter on my bonnet.

Naturally I soaked it, cleaned it up with hot wet kitchen towel that I had left on it, lifting it off carefully until all debris was off, however I cannot believe the damage it has done to the laquer. I have tried to autoglym it with the paint renovator, polish and high gloss finish but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

What are my options? I have some 4000grade wet n dry - should I be brave and try and cut it back or it is absolutely knackered?

I'll post a pic if I can get a decent photo.

I bl00dy hate birds.

Thanks in advance...

It will need wet sanding in all probability. They can etch very deep.

You'll need to machine polish it after, of course. 4000 is quite gentle so maybe use 3000 or 2500 if it is just tickling it.

Evil stuff. pH values of bird mess can be horrific - at both ends of the scale.

Thought I'd try a cutting compound first then finish off with AutoGlym paint restorer and polish which has sorted it; hopefully it won't drop as the fillers go.

That's exactly what to watch out for... dropback could be immense. Give it a quick solvent wipedown if you want to see for sure - Autosmart Tardis is brutal and what we tend to use for 'filler' checks.

Out of interest, which of your cars was it? The reason I ask is that a work colleague and I both got new BMW's in March, and we've both got paint damage due to bird poo. His (black car) is especially bad, and he's been told the bonnet needs a re-spray. I've never had a car before that's been so susceptible to this kind of damage.

It was on the Audi. I've never seen damage like it from a bird poo; it's like when you put nitromors on and take it off after 5secs it leaves like an etched look to the laquer.

Yes, that's exactly how mine looks.

I bet we have the Health & Safety police to blame for this - I expect the car manufacturers are all having to use some crappy water based paint these days to save the planet.
