Just over a week ago I purchased my second car and here she is!

Its a 2002 s-line which is my perfect spec to be honest. I have been looking at buying one for a fair few months now however I had to wait for the insurance on my MX5 to come to an end before I could be insured on this for a reasonable price. One of the main reasons I chose a TT was because the insurance is surprisingly reasonable for young drivers compared to other sports cars.

I've had it for just over a week now and I still can't believe its mine! Initial impressions are that the main difference between this and the MX is the straight line pace. It really is a on a completely different level!! The interior is also a much nicer place to be. I'm still getting use to it but will post further impressions of it as I go smile

I'll hopefully take some more pictures over the next few days and I'll stick them up on here when I do.

Looks a tidy car, a few more pics would be good. I considered one of these a few years back but end up with an Impreza due to practicality issues.

TTs seem to be one of those cars that barely ages with time - you could stick a private plate on there and never guess it's a 2002 car.

Looks good in the pics - what colour is it as i know they did a silver or a bluey silver? TT interior is indeed such a nice to be.

Have you got many plans for it? I would definitely recommend green panel filter/forge dump valve/forge turbo intake/remap which should se circa 265bhp/300lbft which adds a bit of an extra smile when overtaking

When you say "S line spec" how does this differ from a standard face lift MK1 spec?

I had one of these for a while, I never knew a car could have so many common problems. I enjoyed driving it though.

Oh and wait until you have to change the NSF indicator blub.

That reminds me I must sort out my garage I still have a lot of upgrades for a TT in there.

Will be taking some better pictures over the weekend hopefully smile I totally agree with your comment about aging. Can't believe it's 11 years old!

The colour is avus silver which is the one with the bluey tinge to it smile
Haven't really got any plans at the moment however that could all change. A friend of mine had a modified one two years ago and the acceleration was brutal! Personally though I prefer putting money towards my next car as oppose to modifying what I have. Probably due to the impact modifications would have on my insurance!

S-line means it had the lower suspension that became standard from 2002 onwards, bose, headted seats, xenon lights and 6 CD changer. They were also only availible in avus silver or misano red with either red, black or grey leather interior.

I have read a fair few horror stories about them. Mainly concerning the dashpod!

Tricky job I'm guessing?

There are plenty companies that refurbish dash pods so don't worry too much about that. Rear shocks and springs are a weak point and make sure the timing belt is changed on time.

That's comforting to know smile Had the belt, rollers and water pump done 10,000 miles ago which is good for peace of mind!
Any tell tale signs for the rear suspension?

Don't go to Audi with your dashpod they charge a small fortune to replace it.

Owners have been known to remove the front bumper to get to the bulb.

Remove the wheels and check for snapped springs. They are surprisingly cheap and very easy to replace oif required. Other than that the anti roll bar can cause problems if the collars that hold the bushes in the correct place snap. A new anti roll bar is about 65 quid and again easy to replace (well the rear anyway). Shocks can also knock when worn. Another £65 and again very easy to replace (about 30 minutes).

A lovely example you have there. Get yourself over to the TT Owner's Club, huge amounts of information, and membership is very cheap and has many benefits.

Check the temperature gauge goes to the middle within a couple of miles, thermostats often fail. Another clue is the temperature falling away on the motorway, or the heater blowing hot air that then cools off. Coilpacks and N75 valves (boost control) are also common items that can fail, giving misfiring/rough running/no boost. When they're working, they're extremely capable cars all year round, if a little numb. It's a shame the build quality doesn't match general perception.

Me and the Mrs have an 2004 TT 225.
Didn't know they were S line ??

I do love it,nice smooth quick little motor although is does feel very "Electronic" compared to the rawness of My E36.

Has had its fair share of issues, Coil packs played up a number of times, Airbag light stays on regardless of what i do,dodgy idle turned out to be the MAF.

At the moment its right as rain though oh and it was brilliant in the snow smile

I had one of these for a bit and quite liked it.

On the plus side I still think the shape looks fresh even now and those 18" wheels look great still. The interior is really nicely laid out with some really stylish touches. On the move they have a decent amount of shove and mine was pretty economical when driven off boost.

The handling was attrocious however with loads of body roll, understeer and a steering wheel that seemed too large. When pressing on I often found myself with my arms getting all crossed over one another trying to make sharp turns. A lot of owners fit Ebach 30mm springs which helps to remedy this and gets rid of the unsightly gap between the wheels and the arches.

This is a great resource for tuning goodies and mods:

One of the cheapest and best aesthetic mods in my opinion is the V6 rear splitter:

http://www.thettshop.com/exterior.asp?cat=2003&amp...

Really improves the look of the rear of the car.

Glad you are enjoying her anyway buddy. Have fun browsing TT Shop and going off on expensive flights of fancy... biggrin

Hi all,

I was trying to take some decent pictures of it before I next posted in here however I simply haven't had time! The car is still great and I still love it! Taking it to wales this weekend so I'll be pretty annoyed if I don't get some pictures!!

I agree with the comment about the car being electronic. The power is very linear from around 3000 rpm onward unlike my mazda which seemed to have an added kick at around 5000rpm. I personally find the handling spot on. It's no where hear as fun as the mx5 however the levels of grip are far superior, especially in the wet. I do however get the feeling that if a push it, it will snap and loose grip in a big way so I'll keep well within the limits for now while its still new'ish!

Touch wood there are no problems to report yet thumbup

I've always had a thing for mk1 TTs. If you don't mind me asking, what sort of ballpark were your insurance prices coming back as? And what do you consider 'young'? I'm looking to upgrade cars soon and this has whetted my appetite!

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan

I brought and insured this when I was 19 with 2 years NCB. I paid around the £1500 mark for mine on a multicar policy with admiral fully comp. In my experience nobody can compete with admiral for young drivers with performance cars. All the other quotes I was getting were through the roof!
