I might be getting a new exhaust for my V8V and need to make a choice of what to get. Does anyone know if the sound is discernibly different between the V8VS and N420 exhausts? I was told they have different part numbers, so I'm curious what difference there would be.

I know this is a loaded and very subjective question but if you could get any exhaust you wanted for your V8V, which would you choose?

Hi Karl, there isn't a massive amount of difference IMO, I would choose on best price if I was you. Both offer a chunkier sound than the stock set-up and any difference will likely be down to personal taste.
The part numbers are...
AD23-5230-AE- N420
AD23-5230-AC-V12V
BG33-5230-AB - V8S
Here at a couple of earlier threads on the same subject.....

Edited to add the link to the 420 style box, but I'm sure you have already seen Karl plus correct the V8S/420 tags

Well now I'm a bit more confused. In the links you supplied, millsjq keeps stating that the N420 and V12V are the same exhaust. But, I have seen different part numbers. Is the BG233 a different generation of the exhaust than the one originally supplied in the car with the N420 package? I noticed Aston refers to the BG233 part as the Sport Exhaust, they also claim it's lighter, but compared to which?

Price isn't an issue, I'm being given the option to choose any Aston exhaust I want, I just need to decide which one. If the BG233 part sounds like an N420 that may be the one I would go with.

EDITED: Fixed quote from Grant3 above to reflect correct numbers and avoid confusion to other who might see this post in the future.

Sorry Karl... More haste less speed wink I transversed the 420/V8S names, see corrected version above. The 420 exhaust is the same as the optional sports exhaust system smile

Sorry I'm posting while doing something else, so missed the above - it is lighter compared to the stock V8 Vantage muffler.
If it was my call I'd go for the N420 muffler, only because it became an official factory fit aftermarket option from the 011MY, so if you keep the original muffler you could re-fit this when you sell the car and the official retro-fit muffler would likely be easier to sell on via EBay etc....... Best of luck, apologies for the messy post, I was juggling a late breakfast, coffee and the Mrs in chatty mood with a quick post biggrin

That does clear things up. Cheers.

P.S. do you know by chance if ordering just the single part number for the Sport (N420) exhaust will include the black exhaust tips? The Aston brochure and website make it seem like it does, but I would be surprised if the tips don't have their own separate part number. I just want to make sure they order the right item including the tips.
Aston site said:
"To signify the fitment of the Sports Exhaust system a pair of new dark smoked stainless steel Graphitic tailpipes are supplied. These tailpipes are exclusive to this system, and the construction of these parts has been tuned to work in conjunction with the silencer."

Hi Karl, just to confuse things I believe A.M. quote a different code for the aftermarket Sports Exhaust system which should include the tips, I believe it is 6G33-35-10541, they do also say that the Power kit is required for fitting onto a 4.3!

Yeah, I saw that statement about the Power Kit as well. My guess is the reason they say it's required is because it includes the newer ECU software which opens up the exhaust bypass valves earlier (as well as open the valves in the air boxes). Of course that wouldn't make any difference if you choose to remove Fuse 22 as I have done since I first bought my car. I can see no mechanical reason for the Sport exhaust not to physically fit on a 4.3 car.

Thanx for other code for the aftermarket kit. I will pass that on for the dealer to check if it (6G33-35-10541) is indeed the same N420/Sport exhaust but inclusive of the tips.

Cheers

P.S. Are you getting this info from the Parts manuals or somewhere else?
