hello all ,,

was chatting to steve reid regarding the two early torsion bar granturas in my shed that im considering rebuilding .. he suggested that before spending loads of cash on them I should try and find someone who has a running car that I could look at ,,, and if I was very lucky , maybe get a ride in !! ..

I know these cars aren't really known for their fantastic handling or ride so any help would be greatly appreciated so I can decide whether to get on with the build ...

thanks matthew 07927630914 north lincs area but willing to travel ,,,

2 granturas in a shed is good, 2 granturas on the road would be even better bounce

Please keep us all informed how you get on with them.

hi alphaone ,,

thanks for your message , I agree that even one grantura back on the road would be great . ive looked on the grantura register and most of the cars still in existence are undergoing some restoration (some of that seems to have been started in the 80s!!)

if you know of a running car please let me know as Id love the chance to have a good look around it and maybe get a ride to see if I like it ,,

thanks

I would be more than happy to provide a white knuckle ride. No problems with handling...these were build to run with the Lotus' of the time.
Let me know when you will be traveling to SoCal.
What are the chassis numbers of your Grannies?
Cheers,
D.

IMHO you must be joking if you think a MkI or II can handle like a Lotus Elite - a MkIII will struggle. The early torsion bar cars are great if you are sufficiently skilled to control a car with wheels that change toe and camber depending on bump, throttle and steering input. Mind you in most cases they don't go fast enough for it to be an issue.

Only relaying what was told to me by the man himself. I would think that a properly tuned Climax powered Granny would be a lot of work to handle...but would go like stink.
I do not wish to bench race here.
