Road tax....I'm confused

Morning all. I received today two reminders that the road tax was due on two of our cars.But when i read the amount for each car it confused me some what.Perhaps you can fill me in why this is. My wife's 1.8 2004 MX5 Road tax for 6 months is £154.00. Whilst our 2003 Tuscan Mk 1 is only(i use that term lightly)£123.00 for 6 months.Why is the Tuscan so much cheaper than the Mazda.The Mazda is also entitled a 'Petrol car' with 210 g/km.Whilst the Tuscan is entitled Private/light goods vehicle with no g/km listed at all.Should i contact the DVLA,or best not rock the boat?

TVRs were never tested for co emissions so there done on the old system of engine size. Think yourself lucky my 55 is 490 per year

my mates 2002 clio 172 is more to tax than my 2001 4 litre Tuscan.

The car is listed correctly all TVRs were classed as PLG. There were some incorrectly registered under the standard CO2 system and there are threads on here discussing the lengthy and painful process of getting them assigned to PLG.

On no account should you raise this with the DVLA.

I've probably dreamt this up. But I thought it was an arrangement the government had with car manufacture's that if they produced cars in relative small numbers. To help in this instance, TVR, compete with the 'bigger boys', they would waiver the normal method of taxing the car. So that punters like you and me were more likely to buy new, knowing that the road tax would be a lot cheaper than if we were to buy an equivalent car from Ferrari, BMW, Ford etc.

TVRs along with Kitcars and other low volume manufacture cannot demonstrate that every car they produce will perform (emissions) in the same way. They are also not in a position to cover the huge costs involved in proving the emissions figures. On that basis they are classed PLG.

My 7.6 litre Ultima is classed PLG and is also 'Visual smoke only’ for MOT.....result.
