I was someway off being born at the time... I find it way more interesting than the sanitised crap of today...

I started watching F1 in the early 90s... I loved it. It seemed so far away - the races from Japan etc., with poor picture quality and sound.
It was the roughness round the edges that made it so appealing. Even in the dullest races, you couldnt switch off.
Just because a car was leading at the start of the last lap, didnt mean it would actually complete it. Now its not unusual to have only 1 or 2 retirements per race.
There was no re-runs and no pandering to European TV schedules. The fly away races were like adventures. Sat in the living room at 3am, watching epic races unfold, feeling like you were the only person awake in the world. Japan 1994 springs to mind...
There was always an aspect of chaos; it was more uncontrolled; no pit lane speed limits, races actually running in the rain etc.
You could actually tell which car was approaching by the sound; I could still tell the difference between a Renault or Honda V10 now.
The personalities were so much better. Berger, Mansell, Senna, Piquet, Prost...
My first live F1 experience was at Silverstone in 1995 on Saturday. It rained. There was no reason for anybody to go out (fastest time over the two days then) - Alesi in the ferrari did - just to give the spectators something to watch. The sight of him going through becketts in the rain was permanently etched into my head.
Now its just too sterile.
