A cam change isn't beyond a competant DIYer.
I could do one in a day but would recommend a weekend for a first timer.
I never saw the programme but I'm sure Ed made it look easy under studio conditions.
The timing has to be spot on, that's where a lot of time goes, that and setting the preload.

I'm on the beach, last day, some read books, I read other crap
.
Christ, even the beach has wi-fi.......sometimes I miss my childhood, when we had to make our own fun.
.No mobile phones, no computer, no internet, no calculators, no colour TV, no TV of any type, no shoes.
Eeee, it were tough, but we made our own fun, burying the little brother in the woods and running away laughing.....
At least we had ricketts, polio, TB, whooping cough, malnutrition, Gee's linctus, hand-me-downs, marmite and Andrews Liver Salts in case we got bored.

And the tin bath on a Sunday
though why am I laughing? We really DID have a tin bath, infront of the coal fire topped up with boiling water from a saucepan!!
Honest! Then at the age of 7 we moved to a house with an inside lavvy
What luxury
Though what this has to do with a cam change is beyond me,,,, as you were.
Cam change basically easy, but need someone to dial it in properly. Then there's cam choice,,,,, that's a difficult bit.

This is another of those jobs I was considering a few weeks back. I was looking at the Real Steel Tornado. It says use use AZ1005 adjustable pushrods or AZ500 cut to length pushrods to set lifter preload.
I've read a few web sites that discuss adjusting the preload and the use of shims. I am a little confused by it all. Some recommend measuring the space between the lifter and the circlip with a piece of welding rod and then adjusting with shims. However, I also read that it is not recommended to fill the lifters with oil whilst doing this, whereas other people suggest soaking and filling the lifters? Which is correct? Is there a procedure to adjusting and setting the preload on all the pushrods? Do you need shims with adjustable pushrods?
Has anybody done a pictorial or video guide to doing this? I think it is one of those things I'd really like to seen done in the flesh, so if anybody in the South East is doing this, then I'd like to watch!
