Blue Lights/Hard Shoulder
Discussion
Now,
I'm not into Police bashing per-se, but this drives me mad.
Driving as i do the M25 from 17 to staines every day is pretty horrendous at the moment, so this morning, traffic moving (i know i know, a rarity in itself) at about 30-40 Police Shogun lights flashing crawls past on the inside lane doing approx 10-15 mph more than the flow of traffic.
As traffic pick up speed, off go his lights and on come the indy to move into lane 1, 200 yards down the road, traffic slows up again, on go the blues and he's off down the HS again.
he managed to get approx 5 cars in front of me before he turned off before Jct 16 on the slip that only they know
why bother, you didnt get anywhere ??
Rant over !

BiB dont like to use the Hard Shoulder as its the most dangerous lane on the Motorway. Apart from this, its also littered with debris.....some large and some small.
If its an Emergency...i prefer to travel between lanes 2 and 3 with a tidal wave at each side. This is much safer for everyone.
But, however, sometimes the Hard shoulder is the only route.

Thwey may have been looking for something in particular that needed urgent, not immediate attention.
Sitting in the traffic would not have given them an urgent response to the situation they could have been sent to. Passing the traffic on the hard shoulder may have been enough to satisfy themselves that they were responding at an appropriate level.
There is a difference between urgent attendnce and imediate attendance!
3 levels,
1. Immediate = NOW!
2. Urgent = ASAP within reasonable limits
3. Routine = Anytime in the next 3 months

Thanks MC/Gone, seemed strange to me that they only had the blues on when traffic was slowing, when it speeded up again they merged in and when it slowed again on came the blues...
Not sure your in my ballpark with your assesment, understand where you are coming from though !!
Basically there is always a plausible reason, but they do it because they can. The rest of us, we just have to accept the annoyance factor, keep listening to the soothing music and breathe deeply - ignoring the urge to lower a nearside window to ask if their takeaway is going cold back at the nick
