Heading to Barcelona for a few days at the end of Sept for anniversary with the mrs.
you guys gave great recommendations for Paris earlier in the year, so want to ask the PH guides once again.

looking for nice romantic restaurants as well as cheaper good tapas / spanish. Also any good bars

Bo de B
Sandwich Place
Near Jaume 1 Metro Station/Post Office

Les Quinze Nits
Great paella and sangria
Plaza Real

Txapela
Tapas Vasca
Paseo de Gracia

La Ovella Negra
Sangria, cool bar, big jug of beer/sangria to share
Off la Rambla near Hotel Lloret

La Champaigñaria
Meat and cheap wine (3 Euro bottles of wine before 5pm)
Near Bogotel Metro Station

I went to Barcelona last month and these were the notes I made on good places we went. First line is the name of the place, second line is short description, third line is approximate location. Most highly recommended is Champaignaria but be warned - it gets absolutely rammed. Any more Qs let me know. Cheers.

EDIT: And the bar at the W hotel is supposed to be amazing, my girlfriend studied abroad there and loved it but we didn't get the chance to go this year. However, my friend and his girlfriend went the week after us and said it was one of the best things whilst they were in BCN. Prepare to spend £££ if you do go.

41 Degrees
Tickets
Pakta
Tapac 24
Cal Pep

The first three are by Ferran/Albert Adrià - of El Bulli fame- and are phenomenal- but can also be hard reservations to score. Well worth it if you can manage it (amex concierge did it for me)

Tapac 24 (also known as tapas 24) is some of the best tapas around.

I'm another who can recommend Tapac24 miss their McFoie burger and Bikini Comerc 24 (I have a photo of the English menu smile ) - staff were friendly even if rushed as it does get very busy.

I lived in Barcelona for 4 years and still go back as I work there 50% of the time

Paco Meralgo (in Exaimple) is the best Tapas bar I have been to and it´s reasonably priced. The Patatas Bravisimas is incredible... as is the rest of the menu

Casa Paloma (C/Casanova) is really good for Steak, but it´s macaroni cheese is superb

W hotel does have good food

Les Quinze Nits (Placa Real is also very good) paella is pretty good as mentioned

La Champaigñaria - This is spit and sawdust, but does not have a sign above the door, so you have to know where it is. Before 5pm you can order bottles of cava for about €5 but you must have some food. After 5pm, you can order by the glass (about €0.80 a glass) During the day it is chaos in there, but an amazing atmosphere

To eat well and not expensively, you need to go off the main drag. Exaimple is a good example of local restaurants where for €20-30 a head, you get a great meal including wine.

Paco Meralgo is just the best Tapas. I can´t recall the road it´s on, but it´s just lower than diagonal in Exaimple....

There are others, but that should be enough to get you started

i have only one recommendation, but in my opinion it is thoroughly solid. Opium bar on the beachfront. Really excellent food, very classy clientele, fantastic views, lots of eye candy and the occasional dancing girls. There's a huge club inside at nights if that's your kind of thing, but the outside bar area is plenty good by itself.

I have been to many clubs around the world and Opium was one of the best.

The sound system is incredible, there's loads of space and it's air conditioned so it's not the usual sweaty mess a nightclub is. Strong measures for drinks and all top shelf. Fantastic.

I came back from Barcelona two weeks ago and I strongly agree with you. Experienced one of the best nights of my life while in Opium. Amazing crowd, music and drinks and to top it all off, got to see the sunrise outside the club on the beach at 6am.

As above really.....

If you forget all the other advice given don't forget this; it is a horrendous place for being robbed/pick pocketed. Virtually every group of people I know who have been there has had someone robbed or pick pocketed at some stage.

watch out for the asian selling beers on the street. It's a spotter trick where they watch for where you reach into to get your money, then you get had 100 yards down the street.

Totally totally agree....the wife And I were there for 3 nights and were pick pocketed twice (hand bag strap cut) and at 2am had to run in to a hotel lobby to avoid a attempted robbery...... Never again....!

the thieving scumbags tried to pickpocket a tourist map out of my back pocket, my wallet was on a chain in my front pocket.

I went to a bar called Baghdad a couple of times. May or may not appeal to the missus, check it out first. Don't sit on the front row in case you get something splashed on you.

Mate of mine got pickpocketed by two birds who asked if he wanted a BJ. Tool of the highest order thinking that wasn't going to happen

Thanks for all the info guys..
now thinking about getting a wallet on a chain and telling the Mrs to leave her handbag in hotelroom.

will give Opium a go on the Friday night when we are there, a sunrise on the beach could be very cool

Cheers

I never made it on stage, don't think the missus would be too keen if I did!

Have watched other punters go on stage though....
