Was recently in Germany so thought I would take advantage of the unrestricted Autobahn for a bit, my car goes to just short of 150 MPH on the speedo and when I turned it to the digital display it was staying at 146/147 MPH.

Firstly this is my second 55 Kompressor car and performance feels strong and normal for one, I had the IC pump go on my E55 and it's not that, the Winter Tyre Speed Limit is also definatly turned off.
It feels like a computer limiter, identical to the one at 155 in fact just a bit early, any ideas?.

First things first, have you checked to see if there are any fault codes with an OBD reader? I unwittingly ran my V6 on 5 cylinders for hundreds of miles with the only noticeably issue being the car felt a bit flat! They're that smooth a runner!

Usually if there aren't, there might be some degredation in the coils / leads / plugs - not enough to trigger a fault but enough to shave off some outright power.

It's definately firing on all 8 and performing 100% normally up until it hits the limiter, my only thoughts are someone could have reset the limiter a few MPH down by accident while trying to remove it?.

It's having plugs at its next Service so will ask them to inspect the coils and leads too.

If it accelerates strongly to 146mph hits a wall, and will keep doing so, it will be the factory limiter coming early.
Call DMS, they are in the south will come to your house and have the limiter removed completely.

Mark.

This is exactly what is happening, it feels like it just hits a wall, no matter what you do with the accelerator it won't budge, and performance wise it feels exactly the same below that point as every 55K engined car I've driven-owned an E55 and driven a CLS55 so must be the factory limiter, will look into getting it remapped and the limiter taken off.

Timely thread. I'm off to Hanover next week, and wanted to 'express' myself. I'll report back on what I discover smile
