Hoping for some help and advice here - I have a 2009 V8 SS which I purchased from a private dealer (having just had full AM service) 2 months ago and have driven for around 1400 miles since I purchased it. A few weeks ago I noticed now and again a whirring kind of noise coming from the rear N/S that seems to come and go. Mostly I have noticed the noise when driving around 50 to 70mph and the tone of the noise is speed related (increases/decreases with acceleration/breaking). I am in Aberdeen so not easy to nip into and AM Service Centre to have it inspected.

It's possible the hand brake pads are dragging slightly. I would expect the wheel bearing to make a noise consistently.

krisdelta - that may make sense as it is not constant and seems to come and go. Is there anyway to determine it is it, rectify it or just need to live with it? It's not really that loud just one of those niggling noises that you think the worst!!

Adjustment and some copper grease do it for some, a good jet wash around the rear handbrake shoes for others. I've had mine adjusted which has made it much better, seems to be a bit of a feature smile

this solved my problem. Drove me insane until it was fixed. 4,000 happy miles since and no issues.

thanks for that - will get this done right away. I vaguely remember reading on another thread about some kind of silicon compound that stopped the front brakes squeaking which incidentally they do with light braking.

You need to give it some firm braking to stop the front squeaking, quite common on them but easy got rid of (normally). Best of luck with it.
