Who can find my old TVR?? professional service required
Discussion
It is a very long time since I posted here but it's still the same I'm glad to see.
I lost my lovely Starmist blue Griffith 500 P420 BPF two and a half years ago after 8 years and much, much care to a rear end shunt from a monkey in an Astra. The old devil was written off and the idiot boy went through 5 gardens and into a canal. I almost regret pulling him out but he was screaming with such vigour by the time I got to him it would have taken a cold hearted man to have watched the waters rise..
I know that it was salvaged and advertised for £8000 on Ebay and returned to the road.
I want to track it down, but with who's help and how should I go about it?
I sorely miss 'Old Satan" but constant red lining and an 'hydraulic' in a deep ford meant he had to be put out to pasture and the big end rattled rather for ever after. Hence I let the insurers take him when the shunt happened and did not buy back. Also I am restoring a 60's prototype and the cash was handy....
Now absence has warmed my heart and I miss the damnable creature once again and would take it back if it is not lost and bring it back to something like its former glory.
Are there any professional TVR hunters out there I can engage? I remember there used to be an advert in the mag for one or more persons who would give a professional once over to a TVR, for potential buyers. Perhaps they can also find the old hooligan for me.
All contacts and advice gratefully received.
Many thanks!
Oliver

I would have quite happy watched him drown if he had smashed up my Griff. Good luck with finding the Griff

Still alive & taxed.

Any surveyor will only be able to inspect a car for condition once you have found one to purchase, he won't be able to track a particular car down as the dvla won't release owner's details to just anyone, unless someone actually knows that car from its registration, or the current owner is on here, I can't see how you can actually be in a position to get your old car back.
Could you not write to the DVLA telling them that you are looking to buy back your old car for sentimental reasons and asking them to pass your contact details on to the current owner? I am sure that I read somewhere that they don't always oblige but that if you appeal to their hearts on grounds of sentimentality then they may be helpful.
Sorry to be blunt ....but not a f
king chance ..
Clampers and the like can pay a fee and dvla will furnish the details but to joe public I'm afraid there is no chance that they will do the same, no matter what the circumstances you write down , its been asked often on PH for a way round it, but there is none.

Given the reputation some clampers have, I am sure one of them could be persuaded to get the info for you....

That's been suggested also, but as the ones that do use the service are accredited and licenced, and the penalty for abusing the position could be removal of said paperwork which could affect livelihood, they may not be so keen ....but if you knew someone in that kind of position it could be asked ....

I remember in the Sprint Mag years back that there was a regular advert for a TVR 'surveyor' type chap. Anyone got his details? I could have a word with him.
You're probably talking about Rob Ingleby (findasportscar.co.uk), he may have a list of all TVRs he's inspected so may be of some help.Edited by DarkMatter on Friday 23 August 11:21

Thanks all!
Is all that info free to see on the DVLA site? I had no idea.

You could try James Agger - a lot of TVR's have been through his hands. He may just know your old car.Is all that info free to see on the DVLA site? I had no idea.

It's not on the road though, the DVLA report states SORN not due. If it was taxed it would say "Licence Not Due". Finding it when it's tucked away in a garage is going to be difficult I'd say.
Aha - hadn't realised that. Still worth a call to James Agger - he may know the car anyway.
If the DVLA data above says date of liability 1.2.2014 I suspect that may mean that it is taxed to the end of Jan - isn't SORN an open ended thing so there wouldn't be an end date unlike road tax. Don't really know but that would make sense to me - in which case it is on the road - maybe the TVRCC would be able to pass on a note to the owner if the car is reg'd with the club? Worth asking.
