Evening all. In less than four weeks time I will be heading off on what will likely be a 5000 mile round trip in my M400, heading to Italy via stop offs in Reims, Berne, Chamonix, Monte Carlo, Pisa, Rome and finally the Amalfi Coast.

By near coincidence my rear boots, Pirelli P Rosso's sitting on about 5mm are just about ready for replacement with my fronts (also P Rosso's) still on about 9-10mm of tread so I will have them removed and stored for potential future use.

So......a quick and easy question therefore, for anyone that can offer me worthwhile advice and hopefully actual first hand experience of which tyres it will be best to spend my hard earned ££ on, given that I will very likely go through a set of tyres on this 2 week run, and taking into account the type of roads I'll be experiencing, everything from the UK's finest rolleyes through northern France, the unrestricted A5 south from Strasbourg into Switzerland smokin an abundance of Alpine passes angel and then fine Tuscan coastal routes into the mazy hills of Amalfi! cool

Fellow members of the Nobility (and anyone else that cares!) my attention is ALL yours! All suggestions gratefully received and I will undertake to post a Hoon report and tyre feedback post my return to Aberdeen on the 21st of September.

Rgds,
Shaun+

No help on the tyres, but are you stopping at the old F1 pit lane in Reims? If not i'd highly recommend it smile

I've treated myself to a Roadhawk RH-2 as well so will hopefully have a few decent vids to upload too. Now I've just got to dig deep for what'll be about £1.5k of fuel! But it's worth it.....

I would suggest goodyear f1's as a very good all round tyre for a long road trip.

Will be interesting to see how reims has changed since 2007 when i was last there in the Noble.

Hi Shaun,

Agree with Alex, eagle F1 is a great all rounder, they last forever, you'll get 10k out of them I'm sure.

Have a good trip!

Thanks Alex, Graham (sorry to see your post Anglesey M400 too Graham!) but I have to say the write ups on these beasts is tempting me to giving Yokos a shot. I wonder, would their Advan Neova AD08 perhaps fit the bill?

See http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Yokohama/Advan-N... for more detail.

Thoughts?

Bridgestone SO2s still work for me.

I'm using Avon ZZ3s and don't have any issue with them (and I happen to like the tread pattern!). The plus side is the fronts were £115 each through 'asda tyres'. The tyre shop recons going direct to them I'd have got the fronts for £105 and rears for £135. That's a fitted price as well!

I always thought Bridgestone SO-2s were a bit firm and understeery (but that was on an Impreza mind!)

I'd agree with Goodyears - excellent all round tyre.

My P Zero Rossos have lasted 6 trackdays and many road miles with about 50% of tread to go. No idea of their ability in the wet though!

They were awesome on my Impreza P1 and last for ages. SO-2's were dreadful in comparison.

Not tried the Assymetrics yet though.

Thanks to all who have passed their rubber based wisdom on to me. Greatly appreciated.

Tyre choice is clearly a very subjective matter, so I have decided to go for the aforementioned Yokohama Advan Neova AD08's all round, at what I think is a very fair price of £842.36 from Blackcircles.com. They even threw in 1472 (yes one thousand four hundred and seventy two!) Tesco Club Card points, and that would see me spending £1,472.00 in Tesco to achieve the same result (that's got to be a years food shopping?) so in time my BA Avios points will also get a healthy boost.

Anyway, it'll be no mean challenge for the Yoko's, and I'll stick some performance feedback up on the site when I get back in the UK on the 20.09.13 after what, without doubt, will be a 4-5k mile 'Hoon'.

Thanks again to all.
Rgds,
Shaun+

Asymmetric F1's all day long for me. Always been very happy with them and just paid £400 for the rears fitted and balanced.
