I'm thinking of applying for the miliga next year or year after and just wondered if anyone has ever done it and what they thought of it. Thanks Mark

I went to watch it this year - watching the launch from Brescia where I met a friend, and ended up leaving too late to follow them down to Ferrara, instead headed straight off to stay the next few nights in Maranello. Spent the next day with the wife while the cars headed down to Rome - then drove down south along the route with the aim to see the cars in Sienna. I left probably 30mins too late, so pulled up just outside Sienna and watched the cars fly by. One of the best car experiences I have had. I would love to it myself and am going to try to do so within the next 5 years.

Cool. I have to say it is something I would love to do. Maybe in a couple of years. Been watching the you tube videos of it. It looks amazing.

Need a lot of money or contacts if you want to compete in it!

In order to enter you do of course need a qualifying car so let's assume you have that.
James Martin the TV chef entered it and they did a documentary about it. Links on youtube.
His main problems were a) he didn't have a qualifying car and b) the one he found via a specialist ended up costing him a small fortune. IIRC he budgeted c.£250k and ended up spending about double that by the time he'd had it sorted on the basis it's value would double again if he finished the MM.
Unfortunately it broke irreparably on either day 1 or early on day 2.
He was left kicking heels in Brescia but found an Autobook shop where he discovered his car and its sister failed to finish the MM in their day with exactly the same fault as his suffered - dropped a valve and his broke the crank as well.

There is a similar event which I keep banging on about which is this:- http://www.gpnuvolari.it/defaultde.aspx.
Given the MM tends to be oversubscribed and costly this could be a good alternative.
A couple of Brits in a 20's Bentley did it in 2011 and they shouldn't be too difficult to track down for some info.
HTH. Cheers, Pewe.

I did see that programme as well. I have a tr2 being restored which will take a year to two years. We are trying to confirm the history of the car but it appears it may be a works triumph. There were a few in the event this year so thought it may stand a chance. I am looking into other events and thinking of using one of my other cars for such an event.
On a separate note I wish they did more programmes like that on television.
