performance transmission
Discussion
I assume that's the correct term?
So where do people buy the transmissions/gearbox for a high performance motor pushing over 1000hp and 1000ftlb?
Seen a few vids on youtube and wondered what the total cost of some of the complete engines cost.
Also do you have to use a different transmission/gearbox for different applications. I.e 4x4 vs RWD

Well obviously you would need to specify the application and style of transmission you want, and whether 2wd, 4wd or other. So where do people buy the transmissions/gearbox for a high performance motor pushing over 1000hp and 1000ftlb?

And the type of useage it would be seeing.
There are a multitude of options

Like the ones on youtube, rwd manual street sleepers as they call them. It's a daily/weekend car for them. And the type of useage it would be seeing.

You being vague is an understatement. If there is something specific you are referring to on youtube, post a link.
What ones on youtube, and what sleepers ?
Sorry I don't know anything about it What ones on youtube, and what sleepers ?

That's an example. Long term if I could afford it I would like to drop a 632 big block into one of dreamshacks 4x4's

If that was a manual what gearbox would it need?
It is not a manual, I was very specific about that.

There is NO manual transmission out there that would be guaranteed at 2000hp for any usage other than parking it up in the garage or using it on the road gently.
So again, what exactly are you after ?

If I can afford I would like to run this:
With this:
Its 907hp chevy 632, I always thought you couldn't rev an automatic high - I thought normally they only allow you to rev so high but I haven't owned an automatic before so that's why I asked about a manual

Apparently, this will handle 1200BHP/1000Lb/ft. Google appears to suggest the Viper box can be upgraded but with prices of about $4-5K.
Which is why no-one bothers.
Cheers for that. How did you come across it? I tired google but failed miserably probably due to wrong words in the search barWhich is why no-one bothers.
See, you've moved the goalposts even further.
You dont want a rwd transmission, you want a 4wd transmission.
The strongest options will always be based around an automatic gearbox. And most likely the cheapest too.
I assume that vehicle already has a transmission ?
As for revving, the gearbox doesnt care what the engine revs to.
If it's only 1000hp, then some of the T56 based units would likely be fine. The issues would be the 4wd, weight and usage of the vehicle.
The heavier it gets, the less likely the trans is to survive
However for low speed applications, you have gearing on your side ti reduce the loadings on the gearbox again.
Some of the big Ford trucks, F150 Raptor ? or something like that uses a T56 style trans with a transfer box for 4wd useage.
But if you think $4-5k is expensive, then you really havent a hope of finding anything.
That sort of money is pocket change.

Well ideally I'd like the 4x4 but dreamshacks also do a rwd 'dune buggy' that's road legal so either option is there. You dont want a rwd transmission, you want a 4wd transmission.

I've found an engine I'd ideally like but don't know much about the whole engine/transmission thing.
The vehicle already has a transmission but it's the bog standard engine
The weight of a stripped landy should surely weigh no more than 1.5t? Which wouldn't give too much strain I'd have thought.
It would be a weekend toy for road use with very little offroad use (I just like the 4x4 style)

But rwd would be easy. Just get an automatic, a built TH400 or something like that should be decent value and easily handle the power.
More than likely it could be adapted for 4wd usage anyway, with a suitable transfer box.
A Tremec TKO600 would probably be the cheapest manual box that would easily handle the power. Factory rated at 600lbft....which means it will likely handle double that with ease.
Or some of the T56/TR6060's might be an option.
But an automatic would be the most sensible.

I've also asked the guy for an approximate weight which hopefully he'll tell me soon.
I suppose another question worth asking is: Do you really want an engine with that much power just for weekend road use? You'll be getting gallons to the mile and I suspect it'll be cammy as hell so not much fun to drive at low speeds. If that's fine, then crack on, but it's always worth double checking!
