Recommend good restaurants in London please
Discussion
Hi,
My girlfriend and I are looking for a nice restaurant in London, this Friday and Saturday night. Prefer one night to be quite special, with either music or a show and a table for 4.
We’re staying at the K-West Hotel and Spa in Shepherd’s Bush, but we can get the tube to anywhere in and around Central.
Any recommendations? We are currently looking at the following places:
http://www.theblackcat.info/
http://www.beardtotail.co.uk/
http://www.barnightjar.com/ (current favourite, but only have early tables free)
http://thehawksmoor.com/
Appreciate any help please!
It’s for my girlfriend’s birthday, so it has to be special, but not too expensive. We’re talking £10 a cocktail, not £20 or £30! I like visiting London, but we’re not on London salaries!
Cheers,
Dan

There are quite a few topics on this that pop up...
What kind of food do you want, is probably the best start. Is it bars with food, or restaurants with bars? There are some really good places in London these days, and with the location you are at, not very far either.
Edited to ask, do you want the dinner to be during the show/music?

If its with the GF i took her to Clos Maggiore for her birthday last year, I was in the good books for weeks and it wasn't too expensive (for London fine dining) either!

If it's more of an atmosphere there is Big Easy (good food and big portions) with a live Band or a place towards Shoreditich that has a fermaldehide (spelling?!) suspended from the ceiling (cant remember name ATM).

My favourite restaurant in London is Roka on Charlotte St. Better than Nobu imho.
It really is a great place! Noticed a few stake joints on your list, Goodmans is up there with the best.
Another edit: Aqua near Carnaby Street is good too, Choice of Spanish or Japanese food in two separate restaurants...both with their own roof top bar/balcony.

Nightjar is a good bar, not sure of its food?
Roka is good but Charlotte Street is packed with tossers...
Clos Maggiore is also good, but I spent quite a bit in there when we went, but I did have the matched wine and tasting menue.
If you want something that is quite cool then try and get into Sushi Samba, its on the 40th floor of Heron Tower, the food is very nice, and they have a great bar too, amazing view of the city from up there.

Goodmans is fantastic for Steak, especially the corn fed ones! Clos Meggoire another great shout, if you go request that you sit in the observatory.
Also consider Hutong, its the new asian-fusion place in the Shard, not cheap but fantastic food and they are trying for a mich star so the service is currently outstanding. And you get to go up the shard without paying £20 for the pleasure. Albeit only to the 40th floor.
Still can't go wrong with Roka though.
