TVR building in Oz?
Discussion
I accidentally posted this in the "general" bit: probably better in the TVR section methinks!:
I heard TVR were in Oz for "testing" then met a guy at a winery in SA who was admiring my Chimaera. He told me he had just been at a meeting with TVR execs trying to negotiate to build a factory just outside Adelaide. This would be great news for most Ozzies who can only get personal imports into OZ. Whether it would devalue my Chim (only 27 in Oz) remains to be seen!
Does anyone know any more info on this?

Am I the only one that doesn't get excited by an "LS1" ? The specs I found said it is a two valve push rod engine producing 345 bhp. All from a meagre 5.7 litres. Moreover it comes from a Corvette - I think takes TVR back towards it's kit car days. And what about Le Mans when the Corvette and TVR are battling it out ? Not enough product differentiation.
Maybe it's just me.

Yes, I can't see the appeal of a V8 rumble with reliability built in, that produces 350bhp out of the box, can get to a real 450bhp without too much trouble and can get to nearer 1000bhp if you can live with regular rebuilds (and owning a tuscan we probably can)

What other options are there? At least the LS1 engine has a decent aftermarket too so you can mod it. Also other people will be able to work on it which has to be a bonus.
I don't keep too on top of TVR gossip, but is it a commonly held belief that TVR are looking to switch to a different engine (over here too)?

Scarney, I am very interested in this topic and would love to cover it in my SA TVR web log tvrfreak.blogspot.com.
Can you email me if you are interested - thanks

I am informed there will be some testing conducted here in South Australia during the first quarter of 2005, and will find out more about it in due course.
If anyone's interested, I'll post further info here when it comes to hand.

Jeffo, If you find out when and where - email me as I want to be there to take lots of photos and videos!.
The LS1/x has huge potential, take a look at the marcos. Over 320lbs/ft at a measly 2000 odd rpm, over 390 lbs at 4500 rpm and it doesn't drop much after that. Plus there is over 400 hp to boot.
Anybody see the Monaro on Top Gear, they loved it and that's a heavyweight?
Ls1 in a chimera, easy!
