I've been checking out prices for Subs and the prices seem quite low compared to other websites and even eBay. Have you used this site? How reliabe was the buying experience?

purchased 3 watches via chrono 24..........2 VC's and a Patek......but as previous contributor has suggested, the sale is only as safe as the seller.....Chrono 24 is just like Ebay. They do offer a service to act as intermediaries

Have purcahsed several; from Italy, Spain, Germany and France.

Get some communication going with the seller and if it feels right, it should be.

Prices are low because a lot of Europe is in a worse state than we are and there is a very large market on there. Why would your Sub sell if it isn't the cheapest? Sad as it is for them, capitalise on it smile

Thanks for the input, guys! I have started a dialogue with 'Trusted Seller' in Spain...

On the website it talks about paying through a trusted 'escrow' account. What is this and what does involve? Can we not just use PayPal?

check out the "trusted seller" by googling him, and speak to him.....I have purchased 2 watches from Spain with no problems.....paypal is effectively an escrow account of sorts

I didn't do the escrow thing; I am a trusting sort and paid for the watches in full up front (bank transfer), then crossed my fingers. If the seller has a real shop, will confirm details in an email, then it's no different to any other online transaction. You could ask if they'd do PayPal, they might if you pay the fees, 4% or whatever it is.

You know their name and location and have verified it. That's always been good enough for me.

Another option is to pay the Eu99 and have a chrono24 expert do the deal for you. I would imagine next to zero risk that way and they'd probably negotiate a better price for you anyhow!

OK,
I now collect vintage watches and I've bought:

2 new from shops on the net, no problems, excellent after sales service.

15 watches on Ebay from all round the World, £350 down to £1 so far, problems with 4, sent back refunded for them after a big deal, another 50% refund, other repaired. Some with grossly overstated descriptions, ie mint when no way. But the rest were good value. Some excellent service others terrible.

5 from Chrono24, 2 private sellers, 3 from shops. All first class watches and deals £1000 down to £80, no problems, all excellent service
BUT I did have a problem with a USA dealer who had the same watch on Ebay for £500 less! I tried buying but it was withdrawn then re-advertised. The dealer had practically all the watches on Ebay but obviously much less money, I've noticed other dealers on Chrono24 also selling on Ebay.
I reported this to Chrono24 by email. The reply said they would look into the specific USA dealer.....................that was that, he still is rated as a top seller, it appears nothing was done, maybe a warning, I don't know.

My advice on both www's is do your homework, it takes time and sometimes you will make a mistake as me but if you have no confidence in people, simply make sure you get COD.

I have. The dealer was a long established bricks and mortar shop.

Not used them before but thinking of selling some of my collection off to fund new potential purchases.

456GT - what Sub were you looking for? Might be selling mine if its the model you're after.
