Can anyone clean my engine and bay for me? - Sutton, Surrey
Discussion
Hi all
I've recently bought a cheap MX5 that will be a fix'er-up'er. It's not in the best condition and there has been significant oil leaks around the back of the engine (CAS O-Ring and Valve Cover gasket leaks, anyone? These have been fixed now though but they aren't clean...
Can I request the help of anyone who can clean it up for me? I need someone with experience, who knows to cover all electrical parts and knows what can and can't take pressure from a hose/washer.
I did a keyword search for "engine" in the PH Directory but nothing came up so I thought I'd post here.
Thanks

This might not help you, but someone may know of it and exactly where it is (providing it's still there, it's been a few years since I went).
I got my engine bay steam cleaned on the A25, somewhere between Dorking and Reigate. Heading towards Reigate it was on the left hand side, and I seem to remember it was an old petrol station at one point.

Thanks!
That's where I looked for the keyword "engine" and nothing came up so I thought I'd ask here.
Unfortunately, EnvyCarCare need access to a hose pipe so I should've mentioned that any mobile detailers won't work out because there's no access to water in my garage.
Some mobile detailers will have an on board water tank so worth asking the question. Most detailers will also work on engine bays. That's where I looked for the keyword "engine" and nothing came up so I thought I'd ask here.

However you can do this yourself. One plus you have is that on an mx5 the batter is in the boot. Cover the alternator in cling film (don't use foil for obvious reasons
) Also cover your alarm box, open air filter (if you have one) and any electrical point ie the distribution block at the back of the engine bay. Get yourself a good degreaser (I prefer megs super degreaser) that is in a spray bottle and some old plastic handle paint brushes (tape up any metal on the paintbrush with a couple of layers of masking tape). Happily spray away at the areas to be cleaned. Leave to settle for 3 - 4 mins. Spray again and aggitate with the brushes. Again leave for a few mins. Then rinse with a watering can. Avoid soaking the areas that you have covered. Repeat as needed. Personally when cleaning the engine and bay on my own cars I do not cover the alternator or my open air filter. This way I can spray the engine with the degreaser, run it to warm it in order to aid the degreaser working, shut off, re-spray and aggitate, then run the engine while I rinse it off and leave it running in order to dry out. This isn't the prefered method by detailers though and if you do not cover electrical items it's at your own risk.
