Brake dust

Do all Porshes cover their wheels in brake dust very quickly or is it just mine? (Boxster 981)

Does this indicate rapid pad wear on these cars?

Mine do not seem to stay clean long so I searched wax/protection to help keep them clean longer _ I have previously been using poorboys. I have applied Gtechniq C5 to the wheels on one side and have the poorboys wheel sealer on the other side for comparison. The C5 side is noticably cleaner.

The majority of black brake dust is ferrous, from the steel discs.

PCCBs (ceramic) brakes create negligible dust and it's colour is so light that it is barely visible.

Try living with the dust from Performance Friction front discs, it is a continuous nightmare!

Definitely - I use PF97 on my track car, wouldn't consider it for a road car. It's not just the wheels that suffer, the dust embeds itself into the paintwork all the way down the side of the car. I'm going to try PF08 next - I hear it's slightly less nasty.

Not only only the wheels, but down the side of the car!

I wonder if the USA have different brake pads as I know that they consider dirty wheels from brake dust to be a warrantee issue!

That's interesting, because I have to say the rate at which my wheels get dirty (in gentle driving) is pretty unacceptable.

A fellow PH'r told me he had bought a fairly expensive spray-on liquid which was supposed to repel the dust, next time I see him I'll check and see if it was snake oil or something worth buying.
From my point of view PCCB's are brilliant even with my enthusiastic driving, my wheels are never dirty. Makes you think that apart from the late braking characteristics and ability to stop you the virtually no brake dust side of them is almost worth it.

I've decided I need to give up worrying about brake dust. Wash my car over at a friends house, drive 5 miles home and the wheels are coated, repeat ad infinitum

I use FK 1000p on the wheels (inside and out) but just try and keep the paintwork clean and coated with Autoglym EGP... The dust sits on top and is easy to remove if you get to it reasonably quickly!

I am going to change the pads I think!
