Does Anyone Know This 993?

I am off to look at this 993 on Friday, I wondered if anyone know's the car? Any info would be much appreciated?



Spec - 1997 (P) C4 Varioram with 170k miles, UK car with 2 previous owners, a comprehensive history with all previous MOT's and 20 stamps in the service book, has been looked after by Strasse for the last 10 years.

I do not know the car, but one of the best 993s I've driven was a high mileage C4, so the mileage with good history wouldn't put me off.

Id be interested in know what thats up for (dont worry I have a 993). 18 - 20K?

One quick insight for you. If the bonnet looks a bit proud near the windscreen scuttle (usually on the nearside for some reason) don't automatically think its had a prang and been badly rebuilt. I've noticed on a few high mileage 993s that the nearest to the scuttle bonnet hinge bolt loosen slightly, a quick tighten and the bonnet is usually fine.

Wozy68 - thanks for the advice. I am paying a few grand less than your lower value, deposit put on and viewing Friday. Been out of the Porsche fold for a while so hopefully as good as described to me!!!!

Would rather buy a high mileage well maintained Porsche than a poorly maintained low mileage car!!

Totally agree about well maintained and mileage, plus she is now depreciation proof as long as you keep her together.

It would be interesting to know how you get on.

The only real effect the high mileage has is the lower price really.

Just make sure you check it or have it checked properly before you buy. This applys to ANY car regardless of mileage!

You may well have a little gem there.

I'd agree, it all stacks up. Plenty of stamps in the book and not many owners. Not that hundreds of owners would mean she wasn't looked after, just that I seem to find that the longer a car is with someone, the more it becomes part of the family, enjoyed and cherished.

The alternative arguement of course, is that each new owner has a burst of enthusiasm and puts right all the little things which would otherwise get left by a blase long term owner. I know one well-known Ferrari specialist who trots that one out at least 3 times a day.

I will see it in the flesh tomorrow and yes it will have a good once over!!

If all checks out ok I will collect later next week and probably start a thread. My intention is to use as and when want as there is no need to be precious about keeping the mileage low!!

Few upgrades planned, have black leather interior lined up, then some suspension will follow. Looking to build a good road car as already have a caged Clio race/ sprint car for track!!

I would give Dave a ring at Strasse. If they know the car well he will give you an honest view of the car from his experience with it.

I've been really impressed with Strasse, good old fashioned do what they say on the tin outfit so a car maintained by them would be a big plus in my book ;-)

ps they rebuilt a vesuvious 993 which was on 186k miles and sold a few months ago. They told me the owner wasted his money as there was nothing wrong with the engine ;-)

That sounds strange. So the owner just decided to rebuild it for fun?

I understand the while your at it attitude but unless you are adding some upgrades i can`t understand why anyone would get a rebuild done if it was not required.

If I was the customer I would have expected Strasse to tell me not to go ahead with the reuild. Perhaps they did.

I have spoken to Dave @ Strasse already on this 993, gave it a glowing report!!

Off shortly to view, deposit down as missed out on a couple of 964's already. Will keep you posted.

Agree on the 964, even less desirable models are fetching strong money currently, although all air cooled 911's are now. I owned a 911SC 12 years ago when they were considered the 'runt of he litter', could not understand myself as a great car, now you are paying easily £10k for anything half decent!! Think mine went for £6k, and that was a really clean example!!

I think they guy could afford it lol, it was a track toy. He bought it with high mileage and he just assumed it would need a rebuild for track presumably.

Viewed the 993 and all as described, few jobs needed to tidy but feel reflected in the price. Car did 130k miles in it's first 6 years on the road, fully maintained by Porsche during that time. Strasse have then maintained since 2003 with same owner during that time.

Not my first high mileage 911, had a 79 SC had around 185k miles on when sold, best car I have ever owned!!
