Uber Eco special edition cars - who has one? Insight, 3L etc
Discussion
Having just aquired a Lupo 3L having been after either a Lupo or Audi 3L for years, or even a Mk1 Insight etc. Just wondering who else owns such rarities & how you've gotten on with them?
So we are talking the rare special models, ultra lightweight limited production runs etc.
Mine is 2001 Lupo 3L & I'm looking forward to getting my first 100mpg journey
I shall get some picture up over the weekend of the wee little bundle of 800kg now known as Kermit (its bright green!)

Intrigued, can you tell me anything about them, heard of them but know nothing about them!So we are talking the rare special models, ultra lightweight limited production runs etc.

Seems in the early 00's a couple of cars were ahead of their time, I'm thinking this, A2 & MK1 Insight.

Really? I think it's quite a clever piece of engineering. The Lupo was quite a nice car (for its class) anyway, letting some engineers loose and replacing things with aluminium and magnesium makes it quite interesting imo.

Agreed, you may not want to own one but from an engineering perspective it's intriguing.Besides the sooner they make a lightweight (750kg) 200bhp hot hatch the better - power & 50+mpg, win win and we can all get rid of our diesesals!

Alright Pitbull, not everyone is a baller like yourself where fuel economy is no concern.
If you say so. I went against my principles buying a diesel and it's cost me (won't make back the cost of a blown turbo in fuel savings)...
There is a difference between a GT TDI with swift enough performance and a 1.2 diesel Lupo with no redeeming features other than fuel economy. That marks you out as a tightwad. You sacrifice pretty much everything desirable (like being able to keep up with the flow of traffic) in a car and put up with LHD for the sake of economy. If it's the car that sold on ebay you paid £2,200 for it so it's not even cheap. A false economy in my book.
This is PistonHeads?

But you'll look at my garage and see a micro and insult me.
Have a look at the micra
It will give you a clue
I disagree with the naysayers here- I think the Lupo 3L, A2 and Mk1 Insight are all very interesting, especially from an engineering perspective, and all fit for purpose.
One of these would be perfect for the wife to get to work- short journey on urban roads; small and light, so reasonably nippy, and easy to park; and of course very good on fuel making it the perfect city runabout. This of course would free up plenty more petrol money for when you are going a longer distance or out for a hoon.
I would presume that if you had one of these cars, it would not be the only car in your household, thus it makes perfect sense.

You are making an assumption that the person who buys this car is tight, but in reality you have no idea how they spend the rest of their money. They may for example see a car as a means of getting from A to B and simply wish to do that as cheaply as possible. This might be because they have limited funds of it might be to allow them to spend their mony on something else, such as a second car for the weekend, holidays, or a completely different hobby etc.
Also £2200 is sufficiently low that you could recoup the cost of the car in fuel savings alone if you do a reasonable milage.

I didn't say the owner is tight. I said a car of this nature marks you out as a tightwad. It makes you look tight.
So the kind of people who go around judging others based on very little information will think you are tight.I guess if your primary concern is what others think of you this could be a problem.

So you're trying to get him to regret his purchase because it doesn't fit in with what you expect? I don't get what you're trying to achieve with your incoherent rambling.
ETA: nobody else has bothered their a
e to say it, but congratulations on your new car. Owning something that is cheap to run and easy to park is quite liberating. Volkswagens of that era feel incredibly well built even when put next to some newer metal.Edited by METHS on Wednesday 14th August 13:18
