I have been though 25 odd pages so hopefully will avoid asking any repeated questions, apologies in advance if I do.

I am thinking of starting track days with the idea in the future of moving towards rallycross, always wanted to rally so seems the best of both worlds. But thinking track days will be a less expensive place to start and develop skills at least on the tarmac.

Looking at either a hot hatch so Saxo VTR or Clio Cup - insurance will be less, but still a fun car

Starting on Abingdon Airfield - its close and less chance of hitting a barrier

Taking the car as standard first time - so know where to spend money

Remove excess weight - spare wheel & rear seats keeps all ok for MOT

Look into lessons & ask for (cheeky) rides - makes sense to get some tuition and experience

Get a helmet and stout shoes - read various threads on this

Take basic tools - if I need more probably not worth trying to repair on the day
(Torque wrench, air pressure gauge, duct tape, spanners)

Don't drive erratically to get out of the way for quicker cars - be predictable

Those are the main points I have taken for my first track day if I have missed anything or made any major errors please comment ! Also anyone with recommendations/experience about rallycross with the cars or good things would be useful.

Just a point of information my everyday car can only tow 650kg so need to keep it road legal, and learning first with a car with less power makes sense to me. Also means I can spend the money on a slower but better mechanical/low mileage car.

Oh and the main point I got is be safe and have fun

Thanks

Rallycross = good fun, tends to be a car killer so don't expect to use a rallycross car for anything much else once you start using it in Rallycross.

Autocross is also worth looking at (as well as track days) if you want to get some practice before you try rallycross and there is usually one near Abbingdon in August, look up Greenbelt district motor club for info.
