Still got starter problems.

I have a brand new recommended starter fitted but its sticking regularly.
When it does crank i am seeing the voltage drop to 10.6V across the battery.
Shouldnt this remain about 12V?

No - the reading will drop as the starter cranks. What do you mean by "sticking"? Is it trying to turn the engine and still drawing current or does it cut out altogether?

Getting the dreaded solenoid click. It helps if i rock the car in gear.
Its a brand new Global starter with new 50mm sq. leads to the battery mounted in the boot.
The battery has a full charge.
When it does crank its sometimes slow and laboured.... try again and its better ?????

Sounds like a dodgy earth Derek.

The drop in voltage may be reasonable iirc.

Aint got a decent jump cable long enough.
Ive found an good old set of welding tongues with a long lead so will make an earth from that. Battery direct to block. Just got to fit and solder decent ends and run through the car.
Will try it out over the car first and report back.

Still the same irked

Just a big click from the starter unless i rock the car in gear. Then it starts but not turning over as fast as it should.

Got to head out now. Hope to return to some fresh ideas.
I cant help thinking i may have a dodgy new starter

On the previous starter i was getting hotstart problems.
So i bit the bullet and relocated the battery to the boot with new leads and still had the hotstart so bought a Global starter motor.
Ive improved the earths since. Guess i will go and refit the old starter and see how that goes.

My 1967 Mini used to do that, until I greased the starter motor shaft.

Some people have the attitude of "If it aint workin, hit it with a hammer, if it still don't work, get a bigger hammer, if it STILL don't work, buy a new one" smash
You may find as has been said that the starter is faulty, take it off and have a play, but don't use graphite grease.

Hi Derek, when you get a chance, have a look at the terminals in the ignition switch. Not sure how much load goes through this point on your car but changing mine sorted the occasional click, no start.
