Looking at a 190SL on the weekend, anyone own or know anything about this model and can give some advice on what to look for?

Body has been resprayed 5 years ago, interior a little worn but ageing well, mechanically it seems sound but carb has been replaced with a weber, apparently this is more reliable but naturally may impact originality of the car. There's a little rust in the floorpans too.

I really like this model and the prices seem to be heading upwards. A few years back they were 20K, now they seem to be around 60K!!

1969 190 SL?

If I was buying I'd take it to one of the specialists for an inspection. For the sake of circa £300 vs the purchase price of classic mercs it is a no brainer.

Rust can be a problem and the areas to check are the inner wings (check in the boot on the left side and on the right behind the spare wheel) The floor pans (these can be replaced) Mine is a '61 and I ended up replacing all 4 wings (inner and outer) the nose and the tail sections and the complete floor pans including the boot.

You say the carburettor has been replaced with a Weber (there should be two). Many people did replace the original Solexes with Webers and I guess it may impact on the price although make sure they have also fitted an adaptor to enable the original air log and air cleaner to be used

I am in Wiltshire (SN1 area) if you want to have a look at mine or talk about repairs etc, send me an email
