Replacement Dash

Hi
Whats the best way of replacing a wood veneer dash.
Average cost of a new one plus fitting.
Is it worth having the old one re-veneered.
Is DIY an option and what to be aware of.
I live in middle England any recommendations of suppliers.
Any ideas or experiences would be much appreciated.

London Carriage Co do re-veneers, and will be doing mine when I get round to it. Young Doctor Joolz at Joospeed will be fitting it, wether he likes it or not

There's been a few threads on here for re-veneering work on the dash, may be worth doing a search in the archives. There's also other alternatives such as a carbon one (look at BBs profile) and leven do stainless one that I fitted to my car but I guess not to everyones taste.

Our Stainless Steel dashes are £155 inc VAT for both panels. We will be able to fit from the 1st November and fitting takes about a day. However half of this is time for the adhesive to cure so our labour cost is about £250 to fit.

Yes, if you're good at working with veneer and getting a cellulose finish. Start with a plain ally sheet and use this as the backing for the veneer. Then use the old dashboard as a template for the new. It'll take you time but save you money: and of course yuo can use any veneer you like. I was working on a figured ash one but so many people said they liked the original ally dash that I left it!

Before anyone starts I know it's a picture of a Chimaera dash …..

Anyway, I've been looking at the stainless dash option for the new toy…



Personally I think it updates the look of the car, and having seen a few I was pleasantly surprised that it didn't reflect to much light into the eyes, and to be honest isn't THAT bright when driving (I think they look reflective in pictures). Having spoken to the people I've seen with them, they're not to difficult to fit either, which is nice

Why does someone who specifically asks about getting a dash re-veneered (veneer = wood) get bombarded with pix and sales pitches about aluminium ones.... read the brief, chaps!

This is reply to one of the stainless posts, sorry Simpo as it's OT (I think).

I fitted my Leven one myself, very easy to do. Takes a bit of time removing the dials etc and waiting for the glue to set but not difficult. The added advantage is that if you have to remove and refit it at any time you won't be worrying about cracking a wooden veneer.

IMHO that's to REPLACE it with a stainless one.

Maybe I'm missing something, but where does glue come into it? My dash is just jammed in at the top, with two screws at the bottom to stop it jumping out.

Two screws behind the Steering console and one wingnut behind the left hand vent in mine, and a nice snug fit.

London Carriages are meant to be top dogs for the Re-veneering. But if you fancied a change there are others like stainless like LevenTech do, you can make your own as well or get someone else to do it. I friend of mine made a load out of near enough every available material going(once you a have a template its a piece of pI$$, Apparently).He's a chippy by trade. But when trying to sell there was little interest. I see many of them and they were Quality stuff. Damn Shame.

..and the radio cage holding it in. The glue comes into it if you're talking about replacing the dash, you have to remove the old switches and then glue them back on.

My veneer Griff dash being replaced as we speak - through David Gerald - cost about £350-£400 much of which is labour (haven't seen final bill yet). Will be picking up motor today or tomorrow
