Another fatal accident last week and according to the above,there have been 17 fatal crashes in 6 years.
I am not aware of ever travelling on this road, coming from Lanarkshire as I do, but what do the locals perceive as being the problem with it to have that horrendous statistic?

I drove that road every day for years and still drive it from Aberdeen to Turriff and back around once a week.
The problem is people thinking they know the road and driving without enough care. That's my opinion. There are several decent straights and also some fairly twisty bits.
I have lost 5 friends on that road.

Use it quite regular...the issue is quite simple, if you are sat on the A920 waiting to join the A947 the speed of traffic coming north/south on the 947 can make joining the road difficult...which leads to people taking risks.
Ok it's not the busiest road in the world but it can have a bit of a flow.
Maybe if they reduced the speed limit till after the junction it might help...providing it was adhered too.
Not uncommon to see your cement mixers and the like coming horsing both ways.
Other thing I have found when you come down the A920 at the bend, there is a dip on the road at corner before the junction, you can lose traction a bit there...sure people have overshot at times, it's downhill as well, so bascially if driving too fast wouldnt have to be by much or having poor tyres could have nasty consequences

Is this by the golf course on the Pitmedden side?
I know all of the A947 and that section of the A920 from Pitmedden to Oldmeldrum very well.
There's nothing wrong with it as a road. There are one or two bits where bends tighten etc but nothing sinister. Some people go very slow on it and frustrate others. Others as above think they know it better than they really do and find themselves overtaking round gentle (but still blind) bends.

There is nothing wrong with any road if you can drive to perfection....unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world.
However at that said junction there is an issue and it would benefit from either
A. People using common sense and going below limit
B. Restriction to 40mph till past that junction...still requires common sense and sticking fairly close to the limit.
The camber of that road can catch you out to, if you drive perfect then no probs, if you do lock, easily to regain full control in a flash...again based on being experienced.
However driving lessons and a driving test does not teach you a great deal.
