Looking for some advice people.

My wife has a 2007 1.8 petrol C-Max Titanium. It's run fine for 2 years, only done 34000 (so 10,000 in the two years we've had it). It was serviced 2 weeks ago, just before it went in the engine management light came on. They looked at it, said it was nothing to worry about.

Now, the light came on again last week, and then while driving it on Sunday the car went into limp mode. This happened on the M6 so my wife had a fair old scare at the time! Stopped and re-started, and it cleared the issue.

It went into the dealers on Monday, who updated the software and said monitor it. Left the village where the dealer is and the light came back on so took it straight back. Fault codes indicated that it might be throttle bodies, so that was replaced and the car did 50 miles without issue. Drove it home, all fine. Started this morning and the car has gone straight into limp mode again.

Before I take it back to the dealers, any thoughts?

1. To enter the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode simultaneously depress and hold the tripmeter reset button then turn the ignition switch to position II or III.
2. Release the tripmeter reset button when TEST is displayed on the LCD. This will take between 5 and 8 seconds.
3. The instrument cluster will enter the gauge sweep test.
4. To navigate to the following tests while in self-diagnostic mode depress the RESET button to move to the next test.
5. The self-test is deactivated when the ignition is turned to the OFF position.

The 6th item through will show the dtc codes for the car.
So it will show a code dtc....... on the dash.
Let us know what that is, if its showing any.

That will work on a Mark1/1.5 Focus but not a 2007 C-MAX/Focus. The trip reset only comes up when in position 2 and is accessed on the end of the indicator lever.

Thanks both. Tried it a few times and the car starts normally, with no dtc codes listed. I suspect I need to get it to throw a wobbly to generate the error?

It will store the error codes, if it has detected one at any point.

Its not forced to though.

Just to check, getting into the test mode, hold down the reset trip button on the end of the indicator stalk, turn the ignition to 2nd position, dash will say test mode, you can let go of the button then.

Press the reset again to go through the modes, the 6th press hopefully will bring up the dtc codes, if none are stored it will show dtc = none.

I have an 07 and 08 focus it works on both of them. smile
