Mrs Monkey has PCOS which is an absolute nightmare for her, lots of abdominal pain etc.
But just recently she has been "bleeding" on and off for the past 3 weeks without any sign of subsiding
Whenever she goes to the doctors when things get bad she is told that she has to either put up with the pain and other symptoms or have her ovaries out..... Trouble is, we want to look at starting a family in the new year so having her ovaries out is an option neither of us want to really consider, although I would back her 100% if she did decide to go through with it, afterall there are other options available etc, but the heartache of suffering a miscarriage a few years ago has made us want children even more.....
This is all getting very distressing for the both of us, surely bleeding for more than 2 weeks isn't normal by any stretch of the imagination?!?
We don't know what to do, I hate seeing her in pain and constantly frustrated and it can only be magnified 10-fold for her!
Are there any options for her? Would you suggest having a second opinion?

Definite second opinion. Don't be fobbed off with threats of put up or have them removed if you keep complaining.
I have PCOS and my doctor could not have been more helpful, especially as we were trying for a baby without success.
Is your wife on a contraceptive pill? it can help regulate her periods but obviously not helpful when trying for a baby. I would go 3 - 4 months between periods which would then be truly horrendous when they did happen. Again not helpful when never knowing your ovulation and conceiving.
I sympathise with the pain she is in. it can be crippling. Losing weight, even if just a little can help with conception and successful ovulation.

PCOS is the most horrid condition. It seems to want to masculinise a woman. Despite me never having had any cysts found, and having normal blood sugar, I was prescribed metformin. It does something - and makes the cycles short and regular and it helped me with weight loss.
When cycles are irregular they may also be annovulatory - i.e with no ovulation. Metformin sorted that out for me as having had treatment for a first baby, the second came unexpectedly. I did have to see a gynae consultant to prescribe initially but my GP has carried on for some 6 years now. I've heard a lot of ancedotal evidence to support accupuncture also regulating the cycle. Good luck

I found out last week that Mrs SF is ~13 weeks pregnant!!!
We genuinely had no idea, her periods stopped in March, we assumed this was just her PCOS playing up again as it has been known to.
Well, long story short, she was feeling very "unwell" last week. I was laying in the bath, she came in and complained she felt sick, conversation went a little like this:
Me: Why not just do a pregnancy test, just to rule that out?
Her: No point, im broken
Me: JUST DO IT!
Her: Ok
So she did the test in front of me, looked at it and couldn't stop shaking. I accuse her of pulling my leg....
Apparently not!!!
We saw the midwife last Friday and it is confirmed we are expecting
It hasn't sunk in yet as we weren't "trying" but we weren't taking active measures to stop it happening.... no pressure that way, whatever happens... happens!
To say I am over the moon is a massive understatement.
We have the "13 week" scan next Wednesday, however, if our calculations are right it will actually be around the 15 week mark.
Sorry for the long post, I am bubbling with excitement and the Mrs is absolutely over the moon, albeit with a little trepidation due to past experiences.... I think the scan will definitely help that out.

I found out pretty much the same way. I'd been 'off colour' for some weeks and thought it was PCOS playing up and I was maybe coming on (I could go months between periods so when I did come on I really knew about it). I ruled out of being pregnant as we hadn't really been trying (OH was being treated for Cancer) but did a test anyway and was astounded when it was positive.
My PCOS has pretty much righted itself since the baby turned up, regular monthly cycles etc.

tThank you. We found out the Cancer had spread to his Lymph Nodes in his neck when I was 7 months pregnant and he ended up having 9hrs of surgery. It was a stressful time but he's currently 2yrs clear.
Hope the pregnancy goes well, babies are just the best and I honestly cannot imagine my life without my son and I would not change him for the world.
