987 Brake Pads - OE, Ferodo DS2500 or Brembo SP2000?

Evening all,

The discs and pads on my 987 Boxster will need replacing in the not too distant future, so I'm trying to work out the best options.

On discs I was going to stick with OE - in this case Sebro (rather than the same in a Porsche stamped box at twice the price!), but that leaves the choice of pads. What's the consensus on OE, Ferodo DS2500 or Brembo SP2000? Are there any other pads worth suggesting?

Usage is mainly fast road, though I may consider a track day in the future - certainly not the main use however.

Any recommendations/thoughts/suggestions greatly appreciated!

I used DS2500 for years for fast road use albeit not in a 987, great pad under all conditions, fairly long pad life & reasonably priced.

Performance friction Z-rated are superior and give off next to little dust.

The Performance Friction sets sound good, but I've heard they can squeal if not used hard.

Heard nothing but praise for the DS2500, and heard nothing about the SP2000.


Looking like the DS2500 unless I'm going to be making a big mistake?

I've got the Brembo SP2000. However, I only put them in today and have only done about 30 miles on them! Initial thoughts are that the pedal feels firmer than standard pads (Textar) and initial bite is good and no squealing. I guess you won't find much info about them yet because I think this a new line of Brembo pads.

I would take a look at rs42

I used to fit those in all my cars and are the next stage up from ds2500 imo.

My last few cars have run rs29 pads but they can squeal if not used hard for a bit.

Thought it about time I updated the thread, around a thousand miles ago I had the Ferodo DS2500s fitted alongside Sebro discs and new sensors (I'd worn through at least one set as the warning message had been triggered, so they were all replaced). Apart from a seized bolt, I'm told it all went smoothly. The brake fluid had been replaced at the service just before I bought it (by an OPC, so I presume they did it correctly) so I didn't have that changed.

Initial thoughts? I've done a variety of driving with them now, and so far, they've not squealed, but they are an improvement on what I had before. Whether that is because what I had before were past their best (rears particularly), or whether these are a genuine step up, I'm not sure. I have a feeling it is a mixture of both. They're progressive, no snatchy-ness as far as I can tell, and I've not found them lacking in road driving.

Guess that counts as a thumbs up!
