Yesterday I bought a pair of AKG K550 headphones and what a revelation they are. A detailed, dynamic sound and very comfortable to wear. Closed back design so very little sound gets in or out (so no more compaining from SWMBO, well not about music anyway).
Should have done this ages ago, but better late than never.
Music played on a Roksan Kaspian cd player into an Arcam C30 preamp.
Anyone else habitually using headphones for their home listening, and WHY?

I have got a pair of Sennheiser HD650 which sound great, but I don't use them as much as I'd like. When I get in from work, listening through speakers just seems 'right'. They certainly come in handy when I want to listen at night, though!
Mine are open-backed, so that rules out using them when there is anyone else in the vicinity!

The K550's are indeed a pair of crackers. I use mine with the wonderful Colorfly C4 Pro.
I prefer the intimacy of the headphones and use them when lying in bed as the misses sleeps. You can lose yourself in the music in the darkness, you pick up little details here and there too. Have a listen to Air's All I Need and you can hear the smack of the lips at certain points.
I do still like to crank up the speakers though when I'm alone.
