997 C4S first impressions ..... and doing the Gundo

First foray into PH land , although been reading tons of blogs on here for a while which have been a great help before plunging into Porsche ownership and finally satisfying a long term itch !
After much to-ing and fro-ing I decided to plump for a C4S . Bought a 2006 model and Managed to get the spec I wanted, which was Black, manual box ( why on earth would you go for an auto is beyond me ) with the Sport Chrono pack, and adjustable sports seats. The only thing it didn't have which I wanted was the PSE, which I'll come onto.
So the car itself......well I'm in love to be honest! It's only done 25,000 miles so it still feels nice and tight, but it's the lovely way the car feels so communicative that I love. Every input is rewarded and the car just gives so much confidence. For me it was just missing a little bit more audio and so I ran the car down to a specialist exhaust company down in Essex and had them do a Gundo on it. I went for the 1.5 inch muffler bypass, as I didn't want too much noise. They did a great job in stainless steel, it took about 2 hours and it was £300 which I thought was reasonable. Now, here's the thing though, when I'm on my own in the car I love the new more liberated noise the car makes, particularly above 6000 rpm, however on a long run, or,made I say it, when the wife's in the car with me, it gets a little bit droning, as does the exhaust !!
Downsides - not much to be honest - road noise is the main one, particularly on the concrete section dual carriage ways, and the poor quality of the stereo, and this is the full Bose system. My wife's Golf has a better stereo by a country mile and its the boggo version !
So my first thoughts on the car. I did pay a little bit more the C4S version, rather than the 2S. I like to think it was because I live out in the sticks and the roads can get a little greasy, but to be honest I just fell for the bigger hips !
Anyway loving the car, puts a huge smile on my face - although dreading the inevitable speeding ticket !
