Gear selection problem - stuck in reverse.
Discussion
Just got in from under the car, had a beer and I think I have solved the problem
Two clips hold the cables in place at the gearbox end. The offside clip was not there.
When placed firmley in reverse the nearside cable ended up forward of the socket, with the result being stuck in reverse. I could move the gear stick only to 1st or second, let out the clutch and still in reverse (also happened once got stuck in 4th).
Temp fix with two picture hooks and a test drive and all is fine. Next step to get a new clip.
Ordered the clip - 57 pence!
I will update the thread in a few weeks after the new clip is fitted and I have give it a good spankin.
Me thinks the clip is cheaper than a new gearbox.
