This'll create debate, mate.
Discussion
Chatting with a friend this afternoon, he said he's decided to sell his 6 month old Vanquish and keep just the DBS (18 months old). Uh,,,why is that? I replied.
"Well, he said, with the DBS I feel like I am driving the car, a proper sports car, a feeling I never get with the Vanquish".
Anyone else heard anything like this, have they over egged the driver aids. I really have no idea.
This guy owned a DB9.1 prior to the DBS.

This guy owned a DB9.1 prior to the DBS.Have driven a Vanquish and liked it a lot, but wouldn't trade DBS for one because DBS has a better exterior and a more bespoke looking interior. Vanquish is not helped by the pimp seat stitching treatment and daft nav display needing to always be up to listen to music.
As far as actual driving dynamics, if you had a TT2 DBS you would certainly think the Vanquish was 'better', but comparing manual DBS to TT2 Vanquish is apples/oranges, so I can understand you friend's view.

Assuming his DBS is a manual, I'd agree with his sentiments perhaps.I guess it's not all about outright speed. There is still something 'old school' about a manual V12

I agree. When I first saw the interior, I was reminded of the 1970s kit car interiors - quilted mock leatherette.I presume you can order without the pimples, but it is a frightening thought, that it might only take two unpopular features, to put off a potential customer from spending £225,000 on an Aston Martin.
For the vast majority of drivers ( me included) it comes down to looks......I'm not capable of driving a 550+ BHP anywhere close to its capabilities ........I have always said right from the first pictures that I think the new Vanquish is stunning and a better looking car than the DBS which is a steroidal DB9 ........the interior of the Vanquish probably has markets like China more in mind than the UK
But it's an interesting discussion

I prefer the look of the DBS and would choose manual if I let my heart rule my head .
Performance aside,as I am never going to go near the limits, the Vanquish is OK but not a knockout.
I would find the sat nav irritating and the interior too blingy for an Aston.
Possibly Aston have missed a trick with the Vanquish and instead it should have incorporated more of the future design.
By that I mean a bolder step towards the new generation design wise of Astons. Then it might command £225K.
Apologies to Vanquish owners ,it is still a great car and I would glady have one and proudly drive it.
I just wouldn't spend the £225K but would buy the DB9.2.

Exactly. If I wanted a GT car, that's where (less of) my money would go too.Astons at the moment are "decent value " compared with the aforementioned .
The scary thing is that I drive a 2005 DB9 with 32k miles which is totally mint and probably only worth 32-35k .......even though I'm in the fortunate position to write a cheque out for what I want.........I just can't justify it.......it's just not worth 150k to upgrade ...........I could buy 2 lady boys for 150k and probably get some change !

Not a lot of change MG ,the Baht's quite strong at the moment .Your wife would be writing the cheque you scoundrel.
Anyway shouldn't you be in bed by now.
This is men's talk so don't go off topic.

Depreciation can be a wonderful thing sometimes. Imagine if you were to sell your car, MG. The buyer would enjoy an absolutely magnificent car, for hardly any money.
(Oh by the way, poor Edna Langham. Please give her a better photograph, we can only see the furniture.)

On the other hand, I wonder how much depreciation might cost your friend, Y100? After only 6 months with a Vanquish, could it be about £50,000? Ouch.

Depreciation would only matter if she wasn't a keeper Jon39. For me I was only going to do this once, the DB9.2 I have was specced be me and my best mate, every detail from external/internal colour, carbon options, to the stitch width, brand spanking and absolutely unique,,,depreciation, not a concern for us, she's not for sale at any price.Imagine if you were to sell your car, MG. The point you make about the Vanquish and depreciation is of course correct, my friend looks like kissing goodbye to about £50k,,,a massive OUCH!

Exactly. If I wanted a GT car, that's where (less of) my money would go too.Oh, and the interior of the Vanq II without the bubble wrap stitching is very plain vanilla (just look a how plain the door cards are); so it's a no-win either way.
The DB9/DBS interior still looks nicer IMO. They just need to remove the dated, incongruous, malfunction-prone popup nav screen at the top of the waterfall and replace the infotainment screen with a bigger LCD touchscreen.
Wait. Hmm. Methinks I just came up with my next interior mod project
