London: Stolen 964 Headlights & Brakelights - call for help!

Can anyone help?

This morning (16th August) some ******s removed the headlamp units, brakelight units and indicator lens kits from my black 964 C4 in the SW11 (Clapham Junction) area of London between 2.30am and . If anyone (probably in the London area) offers you some nice and cheap headlights, can you quietly take details and drop me a line?

It seems quite a specific "steal" - has anyone had similar in the past? Anyone got any advice on replacing at a reasonable cost?

(Quote to replace is currently £1,000 second-hand & £2,000 new...ouch!)

Keep an eye on ebay (for yours!) as you may find some that would do you for now. I did once get a bargain rear light on there, but prices have climbed since.

Is it worth setting up a camera on the house going forward? Or can you not guarantee parking directly outside your house?

Not only would you get them on camera if it happens again, but it might be enough to put them off.

Dear molly! In London we park on streets, kerb our alloys and use whatever spaces are available!

I shall keep my eyes peeled as I am round the corner. And worry a little bit about the honda nsx I have temporarily parked on the street.

They never had your flags did they?
They usually just snap thos off.
See matt at type 911.
The trim rings are dear.
What f cks me off the most is 911 headlights made by bosch were £65 each in 2004.
Because Bosch dropped their lighting, they sold all their stock to Porsche, who want a three-er each for them now.
Dont bother getting Bosch, just get the copies.
And forget ebay, most of the ones that come up their are absolute Jank.

Thanks for the help folks - the worst bit is knowing that even if I replace them, the same idiots could be back in 2 months for another set from me.

Any suggestions for how to stop it would be welcomed. Best so far:

1 - Fitting them and then drilling out the screw heads - will make them a pain to change in the future - I'll have to drill out the screws, but it'll make them harder to nick.
2 - Filling the heads in with chemical metal which will need to be chipped out to remove them - a passing theif might not bother
3 - Camera in my window pointed at roughly where I usually park the car - as suggested by mollytherocker..

Any other ideas - anything would be appreciated!

2 sounds like a good idea. The only risk, is that they might cause more damage trying to force them out?

I would do it though.

Not sure what type of screws are used to secure the units as standard, but you could replace them with a security fixing of some sort - might give some level of protection, especially if you use a couple of different types on each unit.

Be careful re making them harder to nick!

These people are really stupid and they don't care. You need to think about the potential damage they can cause even if they can't take the units.

I'm about a mile away from you, and ten years ago I had some bd keep trying to steal my Clio Sport's wing mirrors. The trouble was that he couldn't seem to quite get them off, and just left them hanging there having pulled them as hard as possible, even using his feet on the door panel - so I had the car repaired three times. I'd resigned myself to putting mirrors on from a 1.2, but sold the car before that happened.

PS You have my sincere sympathies. I have nothing but contempt for the people that do this.

I don't know your circumstances, but I would consider some form of secure parking for any half decent car in London. I have 3 and all are in secure underground parking. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night otherwise. The £70 odd quid a month is money well spent IMO.

OP, a guy on the 'Porsche 964 Group' on Facebook has just offered you a set of headlights (although I guess lhd) and indicators taken off his '92 964 to help you out. He's called Rudy Mancinas. Are you on Facebook?

Disgusting - trouble is if they get caught it will be a slap on the wrists....
