Still enjoying AM V8V ownership but 2 things concern me. The first is the engine has stalled on me without any warning 4 or 5 times. First couple of times I thought it was maybe me just learning the car/clutch etc.. still but it did it earlier today at about 50mph not even changing gear, quite scarey when you lose PAS etc.. The dash helpfully tells me "Engine stalled". I have had a search on the forums and seen people with similar issues with possible solutions mentioned re-flash of ECU, change of fuel tank etc.. I will give my local AM dealer (AM Works) a ring in the morning. The other issue is sometimes when I pull away from being stationary I occasionally hear a squeal sound, almost like wheel spin but I am giving it hardly any power so cannot believe it would actually be tyre squeal. Anyone had this type of noise before?

don't know about the stalling, you really need to get it checked out by the dealer

squeak could be anything, common on these cars are squeaky brakes, either main pads missing backing pads or handbrake pads dragging a bit

or could be the squeaky belt issue - a new design of aux pulley and belt was fitted to later cars and you can get it as a kit for £80 ish

I don't think there is anything "possible" about those issues.
Cutting out, I've never heard of. That's a scary one!

The engine stalling was a fairly common problem at one point, often only manifest itself as a momentary loss of power if the engine was running at higher revs, but could also cause it to stall if it happened at tickover / low revs. I know it happened to my 4.7 V8V too several times so I took it back to be fixed.

I believe that there were a couple of problems that caused this, one was a faulty purge valve on the fuel tank but in my case there was a problem with the programming of the ECU, which they reflashed and the problem was sorted.

More info here : Engine briefly cutting out

Yeh, after plenty of googling I do feel it's probably the ECU issue. It's very hard to know when it's going to do it, I think it's definetely happened each time at lower revs though which is why I originally thought it was me adjusting to clutch etc.. but I am certain that's not the case now.

This stalling happened twice on Pearl. Took it to H.R.Owen who claimed that it was a known fault on some new cars and that there was a software mod. Supposedly fixed now.

The engine cut out actually stopped a few weeks back and hasn't done it since. A few rattles and a clutch squeal is all that is wrong now and they're all going to be sorted next week by Aston Martin Works. Amazing place, got shown round the workshops while I was there today, not a drop of oil in sight! wink
