Drove across Buttertubs a couple of years ago, at night, in heavy snow. Not exactly a high speed blast - far from it! - but quite an experience. Stopped half way along where it levels out and tried to take a photo, all that came out was the reflection of the flash off my car's numberplate, just visible through a lot of brightly lit snowflakes.

Fab views. Bends not so great imho. Far better roads to be had in the area.

I used to live fairly close by. It's a pretty, but poor road for driving along at a lick. If you feel like doing that, head between Hawes and Ingleton, which is a safer, more open route with better surfacing. Look out for sheep as you approach the Ribblehead viaduct and walkers/cyclists throughout.

I've enjoyed the Buttertubs pass a few times. Very scenic and enjoyable piece of road.

As mentioned it really isn't a road along which you can make swift progress. Extracting the best from it is more of a technical challenge. I enjoyed it.

ive drove buttertubs pass a lot and like people have mentioned above its very scenic but I wouldn't want to drive fast down it.

I can second the recommendation of 10 pence short on the road from hawes to ingleton but as he said watch out for the sheep and walkers/cyclists and if its sunny motorcyclists!

The road from Leyburn to Reeth is quite fun across the MOD range when they are blowing it up or shooting stuff on it.

It's fun if you have it to yourself and there is no snow / ice or fog biggrin

all of these roads and more were the staple diet of night time road rallies in the 70s and 80s - imagine having to go as quickly as possible in the dark (in excess of 100mph).....was great fun and exercised the sumpguard frequently.

I've been up the pass in my Smart Roadster this march when the blizzards came in and that was pretty scary to say the least. I managed to strap a couple of GoPro cams to the car to get footage

They do Jonathan, been over butter tubs three times that I can think of, including the illuminations in April this year. Timing was too slack though, easily cleanable.

It's a good road but not that good. Plenty better in the Dales or the lakes, not to mention Scotland or Wales.
Wrynose and Hardknot are way better than Buttertubs.

Looks like the torque app, connected via a Bluetooth odb2 adapter...
