Adaptive Cruise Control Problem '05 E class

Hi all - posting for a friend who is after a bit of advice

The Distronic cruise control on his 05 E class has packed up and he's been told a new unit is required (c £1500+ at a main dealer)

Do any of you know if there are any other faults likely which might be the cause and if so how to diagnose them, or know of anyone that perhaps does repairs on the units?

If it's just the distronic radar sensor that has failed you should be able to pick one of these up on ebay. Fault codes should have been recorded on the system.

Had a quick look today and there's one for £350.00 + postage.

Seems relative easy to fit, even retrofit to a car without the system.

Worth finding an independent Mercedes garage and see what they say.

They are based in Lightwater Surrey and are the go to guys for car electronics. I went to them last week to fix my Comand system. My local Mercedes garage failed to diagnose the problem in three hours. These guys diagnosed and fixed it in about twenty minutes! Well worth the 200 mile round trip.
