Clearing away in a fast food joint

I am currently sat in KFC and as usual it surprises me how many people eat their meal and then just get up and leave without clearing away their tray to the bin. Around me there are now 8 tables full or rubble. So, when in these type of places do you clear your waste away or have the attitude that they can do it?

I clear up after myself if the bin area is presentable,if it is overflowing and generally messy I tend to leave it for the staff to sort out.

I pack all the boxes/wrappers/tissues together, wipe the table (if needed), throw it all in the bin.

Even in a restaurant I'd try to create as little mess as possible.

You really should just put the rubbish in the bins provided. But hey - it's surprising how many people think it's another person's job to tidy up after them.

They ought to have polite signs up saying 'Please help by placing your rubbish in the bins when you've finished'

More than that...

In fast food places, pubs and restaurants, I am always aware of the fact that most of the poor buggers working there earn next to nothing for the privilege of their 'job'...

So, yes in fast food places, always.

Pubs - I never leave glasses on the table, I always return them to the bar - usually to receive a thanks from the staff.

And even in full-on restaurants, when we've finished eating, I am a nightmare for scraping un-eaten food onto one plate, and then stacking up all the other plates and cutlery into one easy to carry unit for the waiter

I always clear up after myself as this is how I have been brought up to behave, at home and when out. It's a basic respect, for employees and fellow diners alike.

However it seems that many don't share this mentality these days and presume that their £5 outlay also covers making as much mess as possible and leaving it for someone else to tidy up.

You only have to observe a few minutes of 'feeding time at the zoo' at a Harvester salad cart or a McDonalds car park to see this mentality in action....

Not exactly. Hot food is priced the same, whether you eat in or takeaway (both options have VAT). However, cold food is 20% more expensive to eat in, but that's because you pay VAT on it. Cold food bought to take away doesn't attract VAT.

Not weird, just basic manners and a nod to other human beings - don't worry!

KFC, McDonalds etc are the same price regardless of whether you eat in or take away. This is why I think another thing you see is odd. People going to the drive through and then parking in the carpark and eating in their car when there is a restaurant a few steps away.

Yes but there is no screaming kids, no tables full of crap and annoying "staff chosen" music. As for clearing away, we al ways do as it's not exactly hard work

I always used to eat in the car - I'd take my radio (or even better, silence) over your typical Burger King inhabitant anyday.

Always tidy up after myself, not so much for the staff (there is usually someone manning the floors who's job it is to tidy up) but so someone else can use my table as soon as I've gone. Even if the place is quiet. People who leave their st on the table are ignorant aholes.

I live in a park (in a flat, not on a bench) and the amount of people who buy fast food, pull up in their cars and the just dump the rubbish out the door is insane. There are bins along the road ffs! No doubt its the same mindset in action.
