Fancy a cut-price Porsche 997?
One Surrey dealer is already offering discounts
Normally near-impossible to come by, one car dealer is offering up to £1,500 off the UK list price of the new 997 Carrera S, making the opening price £63,000. According to its Web site, it has three pre-registered cars on offer with dealer mileages. Two are Coupe S models at £63,500 and the third a Coupe at £56,880. James Lewis Ltd in Surrey claims that it can build the models to customers' exact requirements in any colour.
We tried in vain to contact the company to find out more, but since prices on mainland Europe are generally lower, it's possible that the offer relates to imported left-hand drive cars. Alternatively, maybe they're just not shifting...

I was reliably informed by an OPC that not all UK spec and delivered cars have C16 - can't remember the reason. To confirm the origin of a car you need to contact Porsche Customer Services in Reading with the VIN number.

c16 cars are not "total" UK specification cars.. it means they are rhd with lights and ride heights applicable for UK roads and come with a european certificate of conformity.
You need to get the FULL uk specification list for the 997 and compare...I imported a 996 and found that such things as full leather and rear wipe which were UK standard but not covered under c16. Also many of the standard alarms that come with the car don't have to be Thatcham approved standard.
If you get a C16 and then exactly match the UK specification from the options list, you will have no problem selling it on. I sold my car privately a year ago and recently saw it on the forecourt for sale at an OPC at full price, proving the dealers do not shy away from these imported cars.
He said although the cars are Europe-sourced, they are full UK spec RHD cars. Effectively, the company is a broker who can either source a car built to your specification, or you can buy a pre-built, pre-specced car.
He reckoned the advantage was that ordering from an OPC would cost more and take more time, so why wouldn't you, especially as you can add more goodies and get a better price when you sell (his words not mine)?
