So, any advice for getting a Kent 1600 crossflow engine running after not being turned over for 33 years?

I plan to change the oil and filter, maybe the plugs, drain and flush the radiator, change the fuel lines, flush (or change?) the fuel tank and clean up the carb. Anything I'm missing?

Inc what you have already mentioned

Pull out the plugs put a small drop of engine oil down the holes & turn over by hand half a dozen times then turn with the starter (with plugs still out) till the oil pressure light goes out & them try starting

I hope the oil that was left in the sump was cleanish when it was stored, as I have seen a golf engine left for many years, that was going to be stripped and rebuilt and the acid in the oil had eaten the white metal off the shells. Just watch the oil light and listen for rumbling. Other than that, as written above. Remove plugs and turn with a spanner on the crank. Check the springs on the valves return or they may clash a piston.

My Dad is the one that laid the car up. He's very meticulous when it comes to servicing and car care so fingers crossed, we should be okay on that front.

I'll keep you all posted as to how I get on when I finally have the time to get it running again.

Personally I would flood the cylinders with new oil, turn the engine over several times, syringe out the oil in the cylinders, then do all the other things in the list. I would also time the engine statically before running.

I've just seen this!

Sadly, I've a few other things to take care of before I can this my full attention. But rest assured, I'll be updating this thread as soon as things get moving.
