Quick question...

Can anyone give me a quick brief on servicing these u-joints? Does the rack or column need to be loosened/moved to get the joints out and to reinstall them? Just like a sense of what this is like before I dig in. I actually need to drive this car right now, and can't have it off the road for very long (well, pretty much at all). And I want to do a solid spec'ing of them to help source replacements.

Thanks!

In my experience, if you slacken the top and bottom UJs off, the intermediate shaft can be pulled first one way and then the other to disengage it, then the UJs pulled off the upper column and rack respectively.
You will probably find that when you try to pull the upper UJ off, it extends the telescopic section of the column (if it is telescopic, I don't think the early TR7 version was).
Rack and upper column don't need disturbing.

Thanks for this. I do have the TR7/TR8 steering column. It doesn't telescope. It would just be ideal not to have to disturb the rack. It's not so hard to loosen the column shaft and move the steering wheel/column shaft.
