A Conundrum ?

A Conundrum ? Is that the right word?

This car does not retain it's original engine.
Given different historical circumstances and using some imagination, some might suggest that it could have been it's original engine.
Why?

Not entirely sure what you are getting at...
If you mean some would try and pass it off as original because it's worth more, or even better as "it has a tuned engine, racing history etc." so worth loads - human nature mate!

You're suggesting that at some time it might have been planned to fit the Healey six into the Frogeye?

Contrary to popularly held belief, car designers do have some idea of what they're about, and I doubt very much whether fitting a heavy engine such as the 100/6 would ever have been considered. The Frogeye started at 948cc & 43 bhp
It would upset the handling, and cut right across the Big Healey market.

Tbf it does look a decent installation, altho I hate to think how hot it will be inside the car, note there's no heater visible.

I was assuming it was a Healey engine, it's not, the carbs are on the wrong side, I've looked at 6 cylinder Triumph, Healey, Bristol & Ford engine images on Google, it's non of them

Clearly not it's original engine, so tell me what engine it is & why could it have been it's original engine if car history had taken a slightly different direction.

Buddy of mine had Frogeye with a twin carb Riley 1.5 engine - I thought it was a nice balance of a little more HP and additional torque.

I've seen a Rover V8 in a Mk II Midget but never a straight 6 in a Frogeye - should be an "interesting" drive

Whatever, it`s got to be better than the weezy 948cc original. A bit heavy though, a 1275 is the favorite swap I think.

the original Sprite was designed to be cheap hence the lack of pop up headlights and parts bin components - and the A-series 948cc engine

Are you sure that's not a 1600 Vitesse engine - its nice and compact - carbs are on right side - could be aftermarket items.

There was - and still is - the Austin Healey Fright where a 3.8 Jaguar engine was stuffed into a Frogeye, but this is no engine I've seen before I think.

Strange I would have said BMC 3 litre, but yep carbs wrong side. Running SU's even the right Green. It's not some lowly straight 6 from the states? possibly ford?

I know early Sprites were imported into Australia in completely knocked down (CKD) kit form and assembled by the Pressed Metal Corporation in New South Wales so could the engine be of Oz descent??.
