Electric Motors
Discussion
Morning,
I'm in need of information on electric motors. Specifically what motors manufacturers are presently using in their EV's or hybrids, whether they manufacture them themselves, and power/torque to weight specs.
Is their an online resource I could consult? I've spent some time on the net but the information is fairly scattered.
Any help much appreciated.

I'm afraid it's just not going to be that easy!
The traction elements in EV's and hybrids are so integrated that it's just about impossible to get specs and data for just the Emachines without benchmarking the vehicles yourself. To date, pretty much all the OEM's do their own electric powertrains, but generally using an external company to provide the actual motor tech. Often, the big companies, Toyota, GM etc, have simply bought that entire external company in order to guarantee control / ownership of the motor tech. Then you get to the tricky fact that an electric motor's peak performance is generally thermally limited, resulting in quoted figures that may or may not reflect those in the actual installation.
The two easiest to research online are the Prius and Volt, both have been extensively benchmarked by 3rd parties and quite a lot of data is availible with a bit of legwork..........

Tesla have been surprisingly open on their blog about the construction of the Roadster powertrain. Take a browse through the blog posts starting perhaps with this one - http://www.teslamotors.com/blog/engineering-update...
I could put you in touch with several folk in Europe who design electric motors for various applications if you need some engineering done, bearing in mind it is how they make their bread-and-butter...
