It's my own fault for having it on in the background I guess but it's not just me, is it? The entire station and it's presenters are completely masturbatory about themselves? Some of the conversations the presenters have amongst each other leaves you feeling like you're unintentionally overhearing someone elses private conversation.

"Oh such and such is so awesome, remember that time we were hanging out in Budapest Zane snorting coke backstage whilst thingy ma bob was entertaining us with his hilarious jokes?! And then you did that thing that had us all in hysterics and it was so totally amazeballs. And then the lead singer from that amazing band did an acapella session just for us whilst we smoked that Kush and... hey... you... why are you listening to our conversation? You weren't there... stop being nosey... so anyway, then I sucked him off and gargled every drop because... "

Just play some fking music you s.

Maybe we should be grateful that the current crop keep it to themselves? wink

I was thinking that this morning. I wasn't a massive Chris Moyles fan but he was fairly subdued compared to Nik. I get the impression he's banging a line a of coke between each song how is someone that hyper in the morning. It's all a bit much.

Could just be that you blokes are getting older (or the station is aiming for a younger demographic). I haven't listened to radio 1 in donkeys years, I do have to sit through 30 minutes of Capital in the cafe before work and it makes me suicidal. Two inane, vacuous cretins wittering on about their favourite crisps or shrieking like idiots when some equally empty-headed celebrity who I've never heard of appears.
It's my age of course, the young guys who work for me seem to enjoy it.

Did you ever listen to Chris Evans when he did the Virgin breakfast? Him and six repulsive sycophants chuntering endlessly on about who said what to who in the pub last night, playing one song every half hour. Only occasionally interrupted by people ringing in, bigging him up and calling everyone in the studio by their first names in a desperate attempt to ingratiate themselves. It was painful.

I sound like Ed Reardon!

Yes - you've hit the nail on the head. They seem to think their own lives are utterly facinating to the listener and the tiniest, most tedious, fatuous anecdote can be recounted at great length as the sycophants around them chuckle and guffaw. Sara Cox is unlistenable because she constantly bangs on about her fking kid like some parent at a mothers meeting which I cant imagine holds much interest for younger listeners. What you notice is NONE of them, absolutely NONE of them talk about any of the music they play - not even on the most facile level. Its simply "here's track A", "st anecdote" or , "here's track B" .

I bought a digital radio for the car within 6 weeks of Nick taking over.

If you want a 'young' alternative, then R1 Xtra is quite good. More involved in the music, seems to be an older demographic, presenters are actually quite funny when you realise they dont take themselves seriously.

6 music has some absolute gems on there, but too much crap for my liking unfortunately. I tend to pick individual DJs on 6M rather than listen generally.

I've tried a lot of the other station and always come back to Radio-1 still the best station with the best DJs by far , I could give grimmy a miss but he is way better than Moyles , Zane lowe really knows his stuff ,, Scott Mills and Sara Cox are very entertaining

I'm 44 so should be listening to some grandad station, I'll be at the radio-1 introducing stage at Reading fest this w/end,, new music still floats my boat smile

S'alright in moderation. Every day, Radcliffe and Maconie gets rather draining and Lamacq is a dick.

Anyway, let me take this opportunity to shift focus onto the nauseating that is Steve Wright. If you want masturbstory, sycophantic ste, Steve's your man.

I was going to say - Radio 1 is awful in this respect (pretty much unlistenable these days) but others are also guilty. Chris Evans on R2 is a prime candidate - his kids etc. Sara Cox does it, but is very funny about it. One of the newer R1 stand ins - is it Gemma Cairney? She's the most tedious about which opening of an envelope she went to the night before and who was there.

Bring back Mark & Lard; I'd rather listen to repeats of their old shows than the current crop of narcissistic rubbish on R1.

I formed a similar opinion when the mullet mob were in during the 80's.

Decided I'd rather plug my ears with dog st.

Discovered R4 in '97. Never looked (listened) back.

Dear All,

the next thing you'll be complaining "it's too loud" and "all the songs sound the same".
br d has it - it's not aimed at seniors with a brain. Stick to Sing Something Simple (it is still going isn't it), farts.

The reason I don't listen to Radio 1?
It's st that's why.
To expand: the presenters have verbal diarrhoea, the songs all sound the same and they're over-compressed to get the perceived volume up,

regards,
Jet (aged 56 & 1/4)

Oh god, Sara Cox, always appears to be trying to defend herself from things the public may have witnessed her doing;

"If you saw me at the zoo shoving an old lady really hard, that was my mother and she had a wasp on her, honest!"

"If you were wondering why I was at the hospital, I walked into a door"

That sort of thing.

And Gemma Cairney, that's the one I was basically paraphrasing in my OP. What a vacuous .

I can't really get on with 1xtra. Going by my posts it should be my ideal station but I just don't like it. I'm another one who finally deciced enough was enough and its upgrade to a digital radio. I find myself streaming various stations from around the world via tunein. If not then its BBC Berkshire.

Most daytime radio is annoying. Kate Lawler on Kerrang was another culprit.

I usually listen 5 Live and Absolute Radio.

The main stations I listen to these days are BBC ones, got fed up with commercial stations and their constant inane adverts.
6 Music I find most of the time is a good station, some programmes on Radio 2 are okay aswell. In the morning it tends to be 5 Live or Radio Scotland.

I really went off Absolute Radio, I can't stand their breakfast show with Christian O'Connell or their drivetime show with Geoff Lloyd. He just witters on with his co-presenter about nothing while laughing at each others lame jokes. Christian O'Connell would rather talk about himself/his wife/his sprogs than play music.

My pet hate is breakfast shows where it is compulsory to have more than one DJ, who will both usually talk at the one time, and then involve the producer, teaboy and anyone else in the studio, who will all then try to shout over each other. All I would rather have from a breakfast show is one presenter who plays music which passes the time until I get to work without putting me in a bad mood before I even get there! When will radio producers learn that this might actually be a winning format?

And my other grievance is radio news bulletins where they have to read the news over a backing track. So it sounds like you are tuned into 2 stations. And the backing music usually sounds like a bad dance track from a down market nightclub.
